Informational Text

Definition
Informational text is a subset of the larger category of nonfiction (Duke & Bennett-Armistead, 2003).
Rational
Students must continue to learn reading strategies that help them with decoding, vocabulary and other skills as their teachers motivate and engage them in content reading (Duke, 2003; Malock & Horsey, 2013). While it is important to get a full range of narrative texts in one's repertoire, informational text is crucial in growing the students' literary abilities.
When reading informational books at their appropriate reading level, students expend their energy learning the content instead of decoding words (Malock & Horsey, 2013). While some content is inapplicable material, it can still assist the student in grasping the ideals of informational text.
