The SPIRIT of SKS
Saint Kateri School's Weekly Newsletter ~ July 8, 2020
Happy Summer!
I hope you have been enjoying your summer schedule and that you have a cool place to relax in this heat. As we reflect on this past weekend, I imagine that you probably celebrated a little differently than in year's past. Large gatherings, street dances, town fireworks, festivals and fun runs were canceled. (That being said, the fireworks in my neighborhood might rival the Town of Irondequoit fireworks ~ and Misty dog was not a fan.) I spent time with family, canned strawberry jam ~ something that I haven't found the time to do in many years, listened to the Hamilton soundtrack MANY times, cooked and roasted marshmallows. It was a time to slow down and savor time with family ~ and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
As the 2019-2020 school year ends we can officially turn our efforts to next year but plans have been in process long before school ended regarding a reopening plan for September. Schools are preparing plans, and contingency plans, using the information that is available currently from state and local agencies and the CDC. We would love to get your input about your concerns and ideas about how reopening might look in September. Below you will find the request and link to a survey from Jim Tauzel, Superintendent of Catholic Schools. Families will have until this Friday, July 10th to complete the online survey. Each school will receive the feedback from their school families to use in planning. Be sure your voice is heard by completing this brief survey ~
Reopening plans are in process as we await guidance from New York State. There is a lot to consider when developing the plans to make the greatest effort in keeping our students and teachers healthy ~ physically and mentally. Teachers want to be in the class, with their students, learning together. Students want the same and to also be with their friends. We are all working hard to create a safe and engaging learning environment in our school. I will be reaching out soon with details on ways you can be part of the conversation. If you have ideas, or want to be part of a school task force to discuss options ~ please email me.
God bless all of our Saint Kateri School families ~ Godspeed to our graduating 5th graders and to the students who are leaving our building, and to our 5th grade families that will no longer have a Saint Kateri School student in our building. Thank you for your years of support for our school ~ passing the torch to others who are here, ready to continue the work you have started! May you all continue to share your SKS Spirit and be Christ for others!
