Parent FOCUSed Bobcat Beat
Highlights for the Week of Aug. 19-23, 2019
First Week of School
Thank you for your partnership and support in helping make our first week of school together so amazing! Your first day packet includes lots of paperwork and forms for you to complete. If you haven't already returned your completed forms, please do so at your earliest convenience to ensure that we have the most accurate information for you and your student(s).
Uniforms
Our school uniform policy was included in your first day packet and can also be reviewed here: https://dcps.duvalschools.org/domain/9795 As a friendly reminder, students must be one of the three approved color collared shirts every day. Our three approved colors are royal blue, yellow gold, or white. Navy blue, nor maroon, are approved uniform shirt colors. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Gray with any needs regarding uniforms. We are here to assist!
Go Bobcats!
Did you know we adopted a Bobcat at the Jacksonville Zoo? If you visit, be sure to check him out.
DCPS Calendar
Be sure you've updated your personal calendars with the DCPS dates (i.e. early dismissals, planning days).
Picture Day
Wednesday is picture day, and it is an Official Dress Down Day. Volunteers are welcomed and appreciated.
Arrival/Dismissal
As we all get into our new routines for the 19-20 school year, please be reminded of the following procedures to help the arrival and dismissal process run safely and smoothly for your student:
- No student arrival until 8:00 am, unless they have been enrolled in our Extended Day morning program or serve as a Safety Patrol. Staff is not present until 8:00 am, so in order to ensure the safety of your student, they cannot be on campus until that time. As a general rule of thumb, if you are unable to visually watch your student enter the building safely, they cannot be dropped off yet.
- Any change in your student's dismissal plans must be provided in writing to your child's teacher. The planner is a perfect place to provide this note, as they are checked daily. Changes in dismissal cannot be accepted over the phone due to student confidentiality and safety.
- If your student is dismissed as a car rider, you must have your white 2019-2020 hang tag, or you will be directed to the front office to have your ID checked by your student's blue card before he/she is released to you.
While we understand that some of these procedures may prove inconvenient at times, please know that all procedures are in place to ensure the safety of your student. Only those individuals with approved access to your student are able to dismiss your student. If you have concerns and/or suggestions regarding our arrival and dismissal procedures, please do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Gray.
Parent Workshop - Understanding 3rd Grade Promotion Requirements
For our first parent workshop of the 19-20 school year, we are reaching out to our 3rd grade parents to start the year with the end in mind! :) This workshop will review the FSA requirements for 3rd graders and provide parents/guardians with strategies to help you support your student at home.
We will host monthly parent workshops, so please watch for these monthly events designed to support your work with your student. We look forward to working with you!
OPEN HOUSE
Doors will open around 6:20 pm, and you are asked to report directly to your student's homeroom. Our Leadership Team will hold a school-wide meeting via our news channel into your student's homeroom. Following our presentation, the classroom teachers will provide additional information and be available to answer questions. Many guest vendors and family resources available in our neighborhood will be present in the "Brewer's Best" hallway, should you be interested in speaking with them. They will provide awesome resources for you and your family.

RSVPs are enabled for this event.
Early Dismissal
As you have already been made aware, this year's Early Dismissal release time is 1:15 pm. As a result, we will begin dismissal on Early Dismissal dates at 1 pm to ensure all students are released by 1:15 pm. Staff will have required professional development meetings that begin promptly at 1:15 pm, so there will not be staff available to supervise students. Please be sure you have made a note of these dates on your personal calendar and have made the necessary arrangements for your student. Our Extended Day program is open on these dates and students will dismiss directly to this program at 1:15 pm. Our first Early Dismissal of the year is next Wednesday, Aug. 28th.
