Joining The EU
Austria officially joined the EU (European Union) in 1995. The European Union is a unique economic and political partnership between 28 countries that cover most of the continent of Europe. Austria was not a founder country of the EU.
History of Austria
Austria was not a part of another country. However when the Austrian empire collapsed Austria tried to join the German empire, even changed the name to German Austria in order to get accepted but were denied by the allies of the Treaty Of Versailles.
About Austria
The Austrian flag
The Austrian flag is based on the coat of arms of the Babensberg Dynasty. It was adopted as a naval ensign in the 18th century and a flag in 1918.
Capital and Major Cities
Vienna is the capital of Austria. It is also the country's largest city. Graz, styria and Linz, upper Austria, are also two major cities. Salzburg and Innsbruck are two other major cities in Austria with the population of over a hundred thousand.
Tourism
Most tourists are attracted to Salzburg because of Mozart's birth place and the baroque center. People also go to Vienna also known as "The city of music". A place recommended would be the Innsbruck because of its skiing spots and town history.
The government type in Austria is a Federal Republic.
Location
Austria is located in Europe south of Czech Republic and north of the Adriatic Sea. It's east of Switzerland and west of Hungary.
Geography
Some of the physical features of Austria are the mountains of Alps, and the River Danube. The land allows a way to acces the pannonian plains and the river Danube leads to the Granite mountains.
Currency
The currency of Austria is the Euro but before joining the EU the currency used to be Schillings.

• The Austrian flag is one of the oldes national flags in the world. It was found during the third crusade.
