  • His mom dressed him as a girl for about the first 3 years of his life.
  • Spent lots of time in younger life at Wallon Lake, in Michigan.
  • In high school he played sports and excelled in school.

College life (or not)

  • He decided to skip college and get started with his writing career.
  • First job was a "cub reporter" for the Kansas Star.
  • The style in which the paper was written helped shape the style of writing that helped him become so famous.

Life in Italy

  • Signed up for Us Army but was rejected because of poor eyesight.
  • Then joined Volunteer Ambulance Unit in Italian Unit.
  • Got hurt and went to hospital in Milan.
  • Fell in love with a nurse who later broke his heart.
  • That love was the inspiration for his most famous book "A Farewell to Arms"
