Book Summary
Jonas lives in a community where everything is orderly. During the ceremony of Twelve though, everything changes. He isn't assigned a job like the rest of the Twelves, but is instead selected to be the new receiver. He meets The Giver who transmits memories into him. Jonas learns about color and snow along with many other things. Once he finds out that no one else knows these things and that everyone is oblivious to what is going on, he is determined to make them understand and find out more about it.

Jonas is a Twelve and has been selected to be the next receiver. He has the ability to see beyond and can see colors. Jonas soon learns that the other citizens in the community do not know what he knows. He tries to make them understand, but they just think he's weird.

The Giver
The Giver is a man that has had a lot of memories transmitted into him, both good and bad. Now it is his job to transmit those memories into Jonas. His daughter, Rosemary, was the previous receiver and she asked to be released because she couldn't handle the bad memories.
