Toko School Cross Country
Our school Cross Country is scheduled for next Friday 31st August, postponement date Tuesday 4th September. We are all very excited as we have new courses this year. The 9-13 year old runners will be venturing out into the O’Sullivan’s paddock which runs on the far side of the school house. Running out into the paddock has allowed us to include some hill climbs and a fence jump making it more like the Rawhitiroa course.
We are looking for a few marshals to be placed around the paddock. If you are able to assist with can you please notify the office
Races will begin at 1pm.
Race Order:
13 & 12 years, 11 years, 10 years, 9 years, 5 years, 6 years, 7 years, 8 years. Please come at the start of the Cross Country to avoid any disappointment of missing a race as the starting times will depend on numbers not time.

SUPPORTING LEARNING AT HOME
Number sense is such an important skill. It is the foundation that all other math skills are built upon. It is as important as letter identification and letter sound knowledge in reading. Students need to have a firm understanding of what numbers mean, what they stand for, and what numbers and quantities look like. Number sense is more than just identifying and writing numbers. Learners need to be able to talk about numbers, experiment with numbers, communicate their ideas, and most importantly be able to estimate. That’s why for the rest of this term, we will be giving you some ideas on how you can build this at home. We will begin with simple ideas, and then they can be changed according to the conversations you are having.
Mighty Maths problem
Estimate how long it will take you to get from home to school this week. Will it be the same every day? Why/Why not? How long will a return trip take?
What about if you got a flat tyre, and it took 5 minutes extra?
ENVIRO UPDATE
CAN YOU HELP US . . .
- FOOD SCRAPS - Room 6 would love your food scraps to feed our chickens. House points will be given out to families that are able to assist us in feeding our chickens.
- We are on the lookout for someone to prune our feijoa hedge. If you are able to assist or know of someone else could you please contact the office.
- We lost a whole lot of frozen fruit in the school holidays when a blown fuse stopped our freezer working. The frozen fruit was going to be used to make preserves for this term. Now we have no produce to work with. If you have anything spare in your freezer or have access to surplus fruit/vegetables we would love to hear form you.
