Message from the Principal
Happy November! We had a lot of fun at Central Road last week during Fall Spirit Week. The students and their families were so creative with our themes! Thank you for your support!
A friendly reminder, that there is no school on Monday, November 2nd, and Tuesday, November 3rd.
On Monday, teachers will be participating in concurrent learning training. Concurrent learning allows students to learn in both an in-person and virtual setting, while being instructed by the same teacher. This new model will allow students to continue to engage in learning activities if they are sent home to quarantine due to being a close contact with a person with Covid or if they have a symptom related to Covid and they are not able to attend in-person learning. If a student in an in-person classroom is out for an extended period that is connected to our current pandemic, they will be able to access learning through concurrent learning. We will be live-streaming lessons from the classroom, resource setting, music, and art. P.E. will not be live-streamed. Students will be provided with a choice board for P.E. if they are a virtual learner or if they are participating in virtual learning due to a quarantine.
As the weather begins to get colder, we want to remind families to dress their students for school for outdoor recess and outdoor P.E. Please send your child to school with a jacket, gloves, hats, and scarves as the temperatures drop.
Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
Other considerations in which indoor recess is allowed include the condition of the field and the presence of precipitation.
The PTA is hosting a fundraiser for our 6th Grade student's end of the year celebration. Please consider purchasing a delicious frozen Lou Malnati's Pizza. The flyer is attached to this email.
A special thank you to our families and PTA that helped decorate Central Road this week with pumpkins.
Let’s make it a great week!
Warmly,
Patti Van Winkle, Principal

A Message from Ms. Kathy, CR's Crossing Guard
Now it's time to say ”WELCOME BACK” to everyone! It is so good to have all of you here, back where I know all of you want to be. Now, we're going to talk safety issues. It seems that many reminders need to be repeated. Many are forgetting that crossing in the middle of the street, especially with a child or children, is incredibly dangerous. Please keep their well being in mind. Another issue that is cropping up since everyone is back has to do with drop off and pick up for those lining up in the parking lot. There is no need to have any more than a half car length between vehicles while you're waiting. The buses must have clear entry to the lot. They have priority to access and must be permitted to do so. And if you are dropping off or picking up and there is no room to enter, please either park in a legal street space or, if you must line up to get in, do so in the proper lane. I am seeing too many eastbound vehicles sitting partially across the westbound lane of traffic, blocking traffic both ways. This is dangerous and does not get you into the lot any faster. Another thing is not to drop off on the street unless you are in a proper parking place. Pulling over to the side by the traffic cones or anywhere else like that can cause a collision, not being completely out of the traffic lane. When parking on the street to drop off or pick up, please do not have your children enter or exit your vehicle on the street side when possible. I think everyone is aware of the traffic on Central Road and the speed at which some people travel. There have been too many close calls and none of us wants to see a tragedy happen when it could be very simply prevented. Other than those reminders, please just use common sense when it comes to your child's safety and ultimately yours, as well. Thank you.

IDHP Changes COVID Testing Protocol
On October 13, the Illinois Department of Public Health changed what COVID diagnostic test results schools may accept when permitting a student or staff member to return after presenting with symptoms. The IDPH will only allow schools to accept PCR test results, which are typically the nasal swab tests that take several days to obtain a result. Rapid test results, also known as antigen (Ag) tests, can no longer be accepted by schools state-wide. A list of recommended testing locations is available online. This list is not exhaustive, and families may choose alternative locations that also provide the PCR test.
As a reminder, if any student or staff member has one or more COVID symptoms, the person may not return to school until one of three conditions is met:
Negative COVID test result (PCR only) is submitted, OR;
Alternative diagnosis by healthcare provider submitted OR;
10 days have passed since symptom onset AND person is fever and diarrhea free for 24 hours.
Additionally, please be aware that the IDPH requires that all household members (page 1, column D, row 5) be excluded from school if even one person is symptomatic. All household members must stay home until one of the three conditions above is satisfied.
