Celebrating MLK Day
To understand the significance of MLK Day, who Martin Luther, Jr., was, and the impact that his words and actions had on America, 5th graders used their nonfiction reading, research and writing skills to think critically about the facts they learned. They showed their thinking by creating these thoughtfully written pieces using evidence to back up the opinions. A fantastic example of nonfiction writing and critical thinking!

Mystery Skype!
Many of us are familiar with Skyping relatives or friends who are far away, but did you know that there is a game played between schools called Mystery Skype? In order to build a social understanding of other schools as well as integrate social studies skills such as geography, students Skype with an unknown school somewhere in the USA. They ask each other YES or NO questions, and try to see which school will guess the other's location first! This game is played in the Library Media Center and the children love it!
