5/6B's Newsletter 2020
Hello Family and Friends...
Here are some highlights from this Semester...
Welcome to our first class newsletter! What an interesting start we have had so far this year! We formed our class from 4/5 Nepal to 5/6 Belgium from week 3 and worked very hard with all our learning areas until the unexpected global pandemic altered our focus for a bit from week 8. During this unprecedented time we had blended learning programs to engage both students learning from home and students coming in for face-to face learning. Students learnt to access their learning online using Seesaw and Google Classroom. It was a tough time for some students and parents with communication issues but overall, majority of our families transitioned well from school to home then back to face to face learning again. I like to thank you all for your on going support during these difficult weeks and despite all these our kids coped really well and I am very proud of all of them. Thank you for your patience during this unexpected situation. I can't believe we have had so much thrown at us in the last few months. Drought, bushfires, floods, storms then Covid 19, however, the students continue to smile and do their absolute best. Please view below a few highlights of this semester as we reflect on a unique start to a new year and decade.

A Message from Mr Kinniburgh
I have enjoyed working directly with 5/6B this term. During the Remote Learning Phase, I worked directly with Year 5, however, once classes returned back to Face to Face teaching, I began to work with the entire class. It has been an unusual time at Fairvale Public School. The opportunities provided through Remote Learning were challenging, but allowed students the flexibility to control their own learning without the direct support that students would usually have in the classroom. There were some students who struggled with the idea, whilst others were able to get into a regular routine of completing and submitting their work on a regular basis. I have enjoyed my time with 5/6B this term and will miss seeing the students every day, but I will continue to work with 5/6B through my normal role as the Learning and Support Teacher from Term 3 onwards.

Please Remember for Semester One Student Reports ...
Due to the significant disruption to teaching, learning and assessment caused by COVID -19, Student Reports in Semester 1 will not include A – E grades. The report you will receive this term will be based on the standard Education Department’s Reporting to Parents template that you have seen before. However, this report will only include the following:
Comments on progress for English and Mathematics,
“Learning Area Effort” for key learning areas taught,
A general comment,
Overall Attitude, Behaviour and Effort, and
Attendance data.
Semester 2 reports will provide the usual, more detailed information on your child’s progress and achievement.
