A Word From Mrs. Loor
What an amazing Field Day! A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Burr for organizing such a great event and to all the parent volunteers who ran all the stations. I hope you enjoyed the picnic lunch with your children. We couldn't have gotten better weather! Please click HERE to see pictures from Field Day.
Another BIG thank you to the PTO for providing our teachers and staff with wonderful treats all week for Teacher Appreciation Week! We so appreciate your generosity and felt truly valued.
NJSLA testing will continue this week with our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders for ELA.
As a public service announcement, please be mindful of where you are parking at dismissal. The Summit Police have been issuing summons to those parked illegally. You cannot park on either side of Blackburn Road between Blackburn Place and Warwick Road and behind the crosswalk on Blackburn Road and Blackburn Place. Thank you for your cooperation.
Have a fantastic week!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor

AN IMPORTANT NOTE FROM THE FRANKLIN SCHOOL HEALTH OFFICE
REGARDING REHYDRATION AND ENERGY DRINKS
Many students are bringing rehydration and energy drinks (PRIME, Gatorade Fast Twitch etc…) to school to drink in the classroom and at lunch. It is recommended that rehydration solutions only be consumed by individuals during periods of intense exercise, and not in the classroom setting. The wildly popular PRIME drinks, and other similar brands, are being heavily promoted by YouTube social media influencers, and are being marketed to students for use at any time.
In addition, PRIME Rehydration and PRIME Energy drinks contain TREE NUTS (as noted on their label) and may NOT be consumed in the classrooms due to the risk of cross contamination from spills etc...
PRIME Energy, and Gatorade Fast Twitch, contain 200 mg of caffeine (the equivalent of 2-3 cups of coffee or two cans of RedBull.) Both brands have a printed disclaimer on their bottles stating that the product is “Not recommended for children under 18 years of age”, as caffeinated energy drinks can be extremely dangerous to children. Excessive caffeine intake causes heart palpitations, tachycardia (a rapid heart rate), an increased respiratory rate, feelings of jitteriness and/or restlessness and insomnia.
Many rehydration drinks on the market contain artificial sweeteners and/or are high in sugar (which is in conflict with our district’s Nutrition and Wellness Policy), they are high in sodium, and may cause electrolyte, vitamin or caffeine toxicity in children.
Please have your student bring a refillable water bottle to school every day, as water is the healthiest, and safest form of hydration for students in the school setting. Thank you for helping to keep ALL Franklin students healthy, and safe from allergic reactions, by refraining from sending rehydration and energy drinks in with your student. Never hesitate to reach out with any additional questions or concerns.

Reminders
- ALL LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE TO THE LIBRARY by Friday, June 2.
- We are outside every day for recess weather permitting and we utilize all of our fields as much as possible. Please remember as per board policy 7490, animals are not allowed on school property without prior notice and permission. It also includes arrival and dismissal. This is for the safety and security for all of our students. It would also be amazing if you could pass the word along for all pet owners who live in the area to please clean up after their animals.
- The playground is solely for school use from 8am-3pm. I understand that you may be arriving at school earlier for dismissal, but the playground equipment is not available to the public until after school is over.
To ensure that we include everyone and accurately provide class placement for all students, we ask that you notify Mrs. Napoles in writing, if you do not plan to return to Franklin in September. Please let us know by June 14th.
- If your child will not be in school, please email or call Mrs. Napoles.
- Children should not be bringing toys, Pokemon cards, etc to school unless it is for a specific school-related activity such as a special share day.
- Any forgotten items that need to be dropped off must be labeled with the child's name and teacher's name and left on the table in the security vestibule past the front entrance.
