Dear Jackson Parents/Guardians,

Starting on September 21st, we will begin bringing students back with a staggered start (see below for details) for full time, in person, instruction. Students will be required to wear masks the entire time they are in the building, so if you are uncomfortable with your child attending in person or wearing a mask, you may continue to have your child participate in on-line learning.

9/21/20: Kindergartners return to in-person learning, and continue to attend the rest of the week.
9/22/20: First graders return to in-person learning, and continue to attend the rest of the week.
9/23/20: Second graders return to in-person learning, and continue to attend the rest of the week.
9/24/20: Third graders return to in-person learning, and continue to attend the rest of the week.
9/25/20: Fourth and fifth graders return to in-person learning.

Family Survey

District 11 will be sending out a survey on the D11 Loop this weekend. Please fill ONE out for each family. This survey will tell us if your child(ren) would be staying online or come back in person, should the district allow us to return to learn in person. If you have any questions about this survey, please call the office.

Thank you for your continued support and patience throughout this school year. There are many unknowns and we know you are eager for answers. Please know we are getting them to you as soon as possible. Call the office at (719) 328-5800, your classroom teacher, or me (719) 328-5802, if you have any questions!

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Thank you,

Sara Miller

At-Home Symptom Screening for Families

Don't forget to screen your child(ren) at home BEFORE they come to Jackson's LAB Days or on campus. Please keep your child(ren) at home if they exhibit any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever of 100.4 or higher, feeling feverish, having chills
  • New or unexplained persistent cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Loss of taste and smell
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle aches
  • Headache
  • Sore Throat
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Runny nose or congestion

Specials (Music, Science, PE) Class Information:

Please make sure that students are logging on to their scheduled Specials WebEx meeting each week with each of their Specials teachers. In addition to students meeting with their Specials teachers once a week for 30 minutes, they will need to complete an assignment for each special, every week.

*Specials are a requirement for report card grades, as students have to complete grade level and state standards.*

Galileo Assessment

Hello 3rd - 5th Grade Families!

It's time to complete our Fall Galileo Testing! This year, we will use the blueprint universal screener (not the Aligned District Benchmark) that we used a couple years ago. As a universal screener, this assessment will be administered in fall, winter, and spring. Rather than assessing specific standards aligned to our D11 pacing guides, all grade level standards will be assessed, and we will track growth throughout the year.

Since we do not yet have any firm information about when students will return in-person, we need to move forward with an assessment plan/schedule as the window is quickly approaching (Sept. 18). At this time, we will complete Galileo remotely, with LAB students having an opportunity to complete it in-person on Thursdays (10th & 16th).

Parents/Guardians, please be aware that the Galileo Universal Screener assessment will give us an idea as to where your student(s) currently is with their academics. There will be a lot of information that your child(ren) does not know at this point in the school year and that's ok! It will help support staff in knowing how to focus our instruction. We will be sending home information to have students take their assessment remotely. Thank you in supporting students along this journey.

Mrs. Ruiz's Counseling Corner

We know that these weeks of Remote Learning have been challenging. Hang in there!

How are you all doing? Please let us know if you or your child(ren) need any support.

Here are some tips from the American Psychological Association (APA) to help your child/children with their emotional well-being:

"As families grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, parents and children alike are being confronted with a number of emotions. Some emotions may be positive – such as a child being excited that their big brother is home from college. Other feelings may be negative – such as an adolescent feeling angry that they are not allowed to go to their friend's house due to parental concerns about health. Regardless of the feeling, we can attend to children's emotional well-being. The idea of emotional well-being recognizes that our emotional experiences are important and influence other aspects of our lives. Below are several tips with examples of how we can help foster children and adolescents' emotional well-being during this challenging time."

Media Center Moments

Over the past few weeks, it has been so much fun seeing students' faces when they picked out new books. It is always one of my favorite activities here at Jackson. We are looking into purchasing even more books for students to be able to add to their own home library. If you have any requests, please email me at the address below.

We know that many of you are still having technology issues. We appreciate when you contact us to help you the best we can. Please contact me directly for technology support at or call me at 719-328-5824.

Q Parent Connection (app)

Please take a few minutes to verify or update the information we have on file for each of your student(s) through the Q Parent Portal. You can do the update either:

Information to verify/update:

  • phone numbers
  • email addresses
  • military status
  • health concerns
  • emergency contact information

If you do not know your PIN and password, click the “Need Your Login Information” link on the sign in page, enter your email address, and you will receive an email containing your PIN and password. Once logged in

  1. Click on Information Update
  2. Review each section
  3. Submit

Once you have completed the update process, you should receive a verification email for each student. If your school has a registration event, you can show them this email as proof you have updated your information, saving you the time of filling out paper update forms.

If you need assistance, there is a help video on the left side of the ParentConnection home page. If you need additional assistance, please call Sue Lesar, Jackson's Staff Assistant at 719-328-5811.

Box Tops for Education

My name is Deb Tuxhorn and I am the Box Tops for Education Coordinator for Jackson Elementary. Box Tops for Education is a school fund-earning program that helps schools earn cash to buy things they need.

There are 2 ways to do this:

1) As you shop in your grocery stores, look for the logo on the boxes. They do not need to be clipped. Simply scan your receipt once you download the APP to your phone. Register Jackson Elementary to receive the points. We will earn 10 cents per item. You can also see the list of products and specials they are running.

2) Send in any clipped out Box Tops you may have saved over the summer with your student to their classroom. I will collect these from each classroom.

Thanks for supporting Jackson Elementary. Every Box Top helps!
