Monday, September 13, 2021, Masking Requirement Begins In Schools

Good evening Crawford families,

Thank you all for your assistance in mitigating the impact of COVID at Crawford Elementary. As you may know from the email from Acting Superintendent Melin on September 8, at the September 7 meeting of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School Board school board members voted to require face coverings to be worn in school, beginning tomorrow, Monday, September 13. Please see the excerpt from the FNSBSD website below:

"Face Coverings

The Board of Education voted on September 7 to require universal masking in the school district for students and staff in district buildings for the fall semester. The masking requirement will be revisited for the spring semester at the December 7 regular meeting. If students or staff do not have a mask, one will be provided to them. Families can find more information about correct mask usage at the CDC’s webpage, Your Guide to Masks.

Medical exemption forms are available for students who need them...

Mask wearing is not required outside, such as during recess.

By Federal requirement, masks must be worn inside of school buses."

As stated in the September 8 email:

"What options do families have if they want to change their student’s learning option?

Thank you to our staff and families for your patience and understanding as we all work together to keep our students in-person this school year."

Thank you for encouraging students to see this change in a positive light and for supporting the school board's very sincere action to keep the students, staff and community safe. We will be supporting students by supplying masks, reminding students to wear masks appropriately, and modeling mask wearing as staff members.

Thank you and let me know if you have further questions.

Ice Cream Sales!

Yum! The fourth grade team of Mrs. Young and Mrs. Jones and their students will be selling ice cream for $1.00 every Wednesday during lunch as part of their economics unit and to raise funds for their grade level. Support the grade level and give a sweet treat to your child every Wednesday. Thank you for your support!

After School Transportation

In this era of instant communication it may seem redundant to inform the office of changed dismissal or pick up plans. However, if students are going home in a way other than their usual way, parents need to contact the office well before dismissal. Mrs. Higdon does an excellent job of letting everyone know when parents notify us of changed plans. This alleviates the frayed nerves of "losing" a child, provides accountability, keeps us all in the loop and keeps children safe.
