Business Meeting
The meeting was rather short. Various board members gave the following updates.
LCCC updates
David Kennedy gave a report from LCCC. You can view it here.
Legislative Update
Bob Bold discussed concerns with eliminating the propery tax in PA and raising other taxes to fund public schools which is projecting a shortfall without an idea on how to make that shortfall up. Charter School reform is still in the budget spotlight. The Supreme Court is on the verge of handing down a verdict on a Justice. Betsy DeVos was interviewed to be Federal Education Secretary today.
As in past meetings, when approving accounts payables, Board member Lisa Roth declined approval for payments to the cyber charter schools in an effort to emphasize her disgust in paying mandated reimbursements to underachieving cyber schools.
Roundtable
Everyone noted their appreciation of the preparation involved for making an informative budget update.
Rich recognized Cathy Walkovic, Anthony Marsicano, Deb Reinhard, and Steve Foulke who announced their retirement. Together, they have accumulated 134 years in service and he made note of their service in appreciation for all they've done at Parkland.
