Bay Lane Elementary Information
A few friendly reminders for those dropping off students in the morning:
Express Drop-off Lane: Children should exit the vehicle when all vehicles are stopped and signaled by a staff member to unload. Note that other children will be exiting surrounding vehicles. Please have your child exit when signaled to ensure that the line continues to run smoothly and safely. When you are approaching STOP signs in the lot, slow your vehicle and look for pedestrians; both crosswalks are utilized by staff, parents, and students.
We invite you to park and walk from the center portion of the parking lot if extra time is needed for goodbyes and unloading or you are dropping off items. Because the parking stall spaces in the drop-off lane must stay open for wheelchair accessible buses, daycare vehicles and/or emergency vehicles, please use the center portion of the parking lot if you are walking your child in. There should be no parking in the lane closest to the building during AM drop-off and PM pick-up times.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure everyone’s safety! The Bay Lane Team
A Message From Our Music Teachers
Dear BLE Families,
This year, our BLE Music Department has been quietly, but diligently working towards a fundraising goal. We, Sarah Brumm & Sarah Habermehl, have plans to add a unit of ukulele study, as well as an extracurricular ensemble to our 3rd grade curriculum. With this addition comes the cost of purchasing enough instruments for each child to use in their Music class, along with extra strings and course materials.
We have been so excited and touched to see the support from our community so far! Through the support of private donations and Fit and Fab U’s POUND fundraiser, we are only $700 away from meeting our $1500 minimum goal.
Being so close to our goal, we would love to formally reach out with our DonorsChoose link. If we are able to meet this goal, our students will be able to start the new program this Fall. If you are interested, or know anyone who may be interested in supporting, please check out and share the link below! The DonorsChoose link will expire on 2/16/19.
Thank you so much!
Sarahs Brumm & Habs
School Nurse Information
When calling in your student's absence, please provide as much information as possible. This will allow us to monitor specific conditions more accurately and provide a healthy learning environment for your child.
INFLUENZA
Influenza has started to increase in Wisconsin and the MNSD.
The Wisconsin Surveillance Report, December 29, 2018, shows MODERATE levels of influenza-like illness being reported throughout the state except Milwaukee County which is still below baseline. This is an increase since the last report before Winter Break.
MNSD is seeing a NORMAL amount of influenza-like illness being reported but reports have started to increase since return from Winter Break.
Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Flu is different from a cold. Flu usually comes on suddenly. People who are sick with flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:
Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
Cough
Sore throat
Runny or stuffy nose
Muscle or body aches
Headaches
Fatigue (tiredness)
Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
*It’s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever.
HANDWASHING is the single most important method of preventing the spread of illness.
ABSENCE REPORTING
When you report your child as absent please provide as much information as possible. This allows MNSD to monitor specific conditions more accurately and provide a healthy learning environment for your child. In addition, we have some students throughout MNSD that have health conditions requiring close surveillance of potential illness exposure.
Absence information related to illness is optimal if it includes the following:
- Symptoms such as
- Fever
- Flu-like (see above)
- Sore Throat
- Respiratory - nasal or sinus congestion / drainage, cough (productive or non-productive)
- Gastro-intestinal - diarrhea or vomiting including frequency and last episode
- Skin - rash
- Onset - Date and/or time of onset
- Diagnosis - Healthcare provider diagnosis including lab test confirmation (ex. flu, strep)
- Treatment - Prescribed by healthcare provider (ex. antibiotics) or parent-initiated
- Others - If other family members are also ill
The Wisconsin Childhood Communicable Disease Chart is a handy reference.
GUIDELINES
It is important to keep your child home when they are experiencing illness. MNSD has developed some GUIDELINES to help determine when your child should stay home from school. We at MNSD know that keeping a child home from school presents challenges, not only for working families, but for all families. We want to minimize absences but at the same time provide a safe and healthy learning environment.
MNSD has also developed some GUIDELINES to help determine when to take your child to your healthcare provider.
Please refer to the District Nurse page on the MNSD website for more information.

School Lunch and Recess Schedule and Menu
A message from food service:
Please make sure when sending in money with your child for hot lunch to clearly mark the student's name in the "memo section" of the check or if sending cash, write student's name on the envelope. This ensures the money goes into the family account. Also, when sending money, please discuss with your child the importance of turning funds in right away rather than being held in backpacks, lockers, or folders.

Hi! I'm Mrs. Preuss. I am a general aide helping our fabulous first graders.
This is my 18th year as an aide in the district. I have worked with many children over the years and have loved every minute of it.
I am married to my husband, Rob for 40 years. Wow!
We have two sons, Randy and Dan.
We also have a bearded dragon named Rocky.
I like to cook, garden and shop (especially at Kohls with 30% off).
I enjoy working at BLE with your children and the wonderful caring staff
Amy Reno
I have two boys in this district one at Lake Denoon (past Mr. V. Student) and the other at Muskego High. We moved to Muskego when my husband retired from 20 years in the Air Force to finally be grounded. We have lived in many places such as California, Nevada, Alaska and Montana. Our family enjoys road trips. We drive everywhere and wish to finish visiting all 50 states within the next 2 years
