LES Transforms Gym into a Rock & Glow Bowling Alley

UES Garden Club Starts Planting
Students in Mr. Renfer's 5th grade class were preparing beds and planting various fruits and vegetables in the UES Garden, funded by the NHS Education Fund. This garden will have produce and herbs available for the NHSSD community this summer. The students will complement their work in the garden with classroom studies of ecology, ecosystems, and vermiculture for composting.

SCHOOL BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
At the April 22, 2021 Board of School Directors meeting, the following items were presented and/or approved:
- $1.2M Track and Field Project Approved: The Board voted to approve the track and field improvement project, which is scheduled to begin this June and to finish before fall sports begin. Considering that students and families are seeking field time elsewhere to meet their needs, short-term solutions are soon to expire, and possible safety concerns if sports continue on the current track, the Board approved this measure unanimously.
- Equity Committee Presentation: Representatives of the District's Equity Committee offered an overview of the Committee's mission, goals, projects and timeline. To date, the Committee has collected survey data to assess the NHS community's perception of equity, launched partnerships with community organizations, and established a student equity committee.
- Future Consideration for Scheduling: Per the District's Comprehensive Plan, the Curriculum Advisory Committee announced plans to further review the HS scheduling model. The Committee will consider various scheduling options and the mechanisms to support successful integration. Parent/guardian and student feedback will be invited as the review progresses in Fall 2021.
