Homework in Music?

Check that Music Google Classroom on their Chromebook! Every week we have "homework"- to practice the songs we have been working on in class. Students should log on, practice the music and perform for a family member (no paper copies this year, only in Google Classroom), and then "MARK AS DONE" on the assignment. These assignments will eventually be combined as a "homework" grade in Skyward.

What Are "Mad Minute" Tests?

Every month students will have a Mad Minute test in Music! Students have 1 minute to name 30 note names that they need to have memorized. Memorizing note names improves students’ overall music reading performance; it decreases the amount of time to translate written music to instruments and allows students to move onto more challenging concepts.

Although the grades will be posted in the grade book, hang tight- they will be averaged at the end of the semester for a single Mad Minute grade. We are tracking our progress so that we can see if they are improving on their music reading skills. Please support your student by helping him/her practice with flash cards or the optional worksheets that are sent home!

If you have any questions or concerns about this program, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Amsler!

Drama Club Update

We had our first official rehearsal this week! Parts have been cast and rehearsals for actors take place every Tuesday and Thursday after school until 5:00pm. Production Crew will rejoin us at rehearsals in February. Our performance will be February 24.

We will communicate with parents regarding 4th Grade Drama Club via REMIND. Please sign up by clicking this link: https://www.remind.com/join/jmdrama Remind 101 is a website that provides a safe way for teachers to text message or email parents.

We got our first Parent Letter Tuesday night. This contains important information, including a calendar of all our rehearsals. Please keep this in a safe place. Copies of PARENT LETTERS can be viewed on the drama club section of the music website, as well as on their Chromebooks in our “Google Classroom” for drama club. We will also be adding our rehearsal dates to their planners. See the PARENT LETTER here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TJ1CxATNrQDSACaN_PyodMBB9Rnt66FTgS1ol1I-OVU/edit?usp=sharing

HELP US GET ENOUGH INSTRUMENTS FOR EVERYONE!

We are trying raise funds to purchase instruments for our classroom. Our goal is to have enough barred instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, metallophones) for an entire class of students- thanks to a recent grant from DonorsChoose.org, we are only 7 instruments away from this goal!

If you didn't get a chance to donate towards our last project, please consider donating towards our new one. You can donate $1 or as much as you are able- every little bit counts! Please consider sharing this link and help support music in OUR school!
