A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I hope that everyone was able to enjoy the weekend and the extra day that the holiday provided. We had a fantastic week last week at Luther Burbank. The positivity throughout the building was palpable. There was lots of smiling and lots of laughter. It is SO great to see and hear our teachers and students together after the summer. School is just not the same without our students in the building. One 6th grade student told me in the cafeteria on Friday - with much animation - that “middle school is SO much better than elementary school!” You have to love it!
A special thank you to the Lancaster PTO for helping welcome our staff back to school with treats and snacks and for extending this welcome to our front walkways with the incredible positive chalk messages that filled our sidewalks. We received so many compliments on these messages, and we were incredibly happy to respond in thanks with "that's our Lancaster PTO... and our students helped, too. Aren't they the BEST!"
As we look ahead to September, we look forward to the start of Cross Country and to welcoming our parents and guardians to our Open House on September 26th. Extracurricular activities and intramurals will begin soon as well. Please be on the lookout for more information soon to follow.
Yours in partnership,

Back-to School Registration on InfoSnap – Important!
If you haven’t already done so, please complete the registration process using the information provided to you via email from Luther Burbank Middle School. Completing this process is critical for registration purposes, including providing important information for contact purposes and student safety. If you have any questions please contact Judy Ursuliak in the main office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note that Thursday, September 19th, is School Picture Day and that informational packets for purchasing pictures will be mailed to each student's home directly from the photographer soon. Although all students will need to have their picture taken, purchasing pictures is strictly optional for families.
LBMS Open House
Mark your calendars! All parents/guardians are invited to our annual Open House on Thursday, September 26th. The purpose of this evening is to provide you with an opportunity to meet our staff and learn important information about our school programs and expectations. Presentations will begin at 6:00 PM in the Rowlandson auditorium. The presentation will be preceded by a Title I presentation in our Luther Burbank library at 5:30 PM. All are welcome to attend. Since this evening is intended for parents and guardians only, I respectfully request that students do not attend this event. I am hopeful that at least one parent or guardian from each family is able to schedule time to join us for this important opportunity.
LBMS School Council, Positions Available
Parents and community members can become directly involved in the continual improvement of our school by serving on School Council. School Council plays an important role in shaping school policies and programs. This year, we are seeking two parents and one community member, respectively, to serve on School Council for a 2 year term. The Council meets on a monthly basis after school. Time and date will be determined based on member availability and consensus. Please email Judy Ursuliak at email@example.com, by September 13th, if you are interested in serving on this important site-based committee.
Luther Burbank Middle School Handbook
Please take a look at our LBMS Student and Parent Handbook which has been updated and revised for the school year. It is our hope that you will find this handbook user-friendly and navigable.
Positive Sign Thursdays at Luther Burbank
Each Thursday, our Student Council starts the day with a good dose of positivity and thankfulness. Students and staff greet students as they enter the building with a positive message. How can you not smile? Check out these great pictures from Week #1, 2019-2020 (see more pictures @LBMSPrincipal).
