A Message from the Principal's Desk:
Dear Kingsway Community,
We knew that flexibility and grace would be two attributes that would be necessary for our success this year as a school community, and both have certainly been put to the test. After settling in nicely to our new routines in September and October, November required us to adjust in many ways. The students and staff adjusted fairly seamlessly the last three weeks, and I am proud of both groups. Please continue to keep a keen eye out for all information that is sent out from the district as this winter season could continue to test us. I am excited to report that over 200 students were a part of our Mini Mid-Semester Renaissance Celebration last week! Those two hundred students, despite any challenges, continue to get involved in our community and produce academically. As we move into the holiday season, we have plenty to be thankful for at Kingsway. Please cherish every moment this holiday season with your 7th or 8th grader as these next few months and years will continue to fly by.
Sincerely,
Brian Tonelli
Communication
PE Department: During a fully virtual learning environment, students will be given a time in their schedule to receive an optional class period of live virtual Physical Education. This optional class will take place during 8th period (2:10-2:45) and will include a variety of physical activities tailored to the students’ wants and needs. This will assist in promoting their social, mental, and physical well-being. These activities will be intrinsically motivating while at the same time being fun and engaging. Students can find the active link for the class by clicking on the “Virtual PE” button on the home page of their HPE course in Schoology.
Routine: Regardless of your child's learning program this year or the program we are currently utilizing at a given time, establishing a set routine is key to success. Waking up at the same time each day, having a "bedtime", following the bell schedule when completing work are all best practices that will certainly yield academic success.
Office Hours: Office hours, regardless of the learning model being using at a given time, are essential to your child's success. Middle school is a time where students (with everyone's guidance, of course) should be taking the responsibility for their own learning. Encourage your child to take advantage of this daily resource by having him/her reach out to his/her teacher/s. Lessons can be re-explained, expectations can be clarified, questions can be addressed, and most importantly an life-long skill of advocating and seeking help for one's self will be achieved.
Conferences: Conferences with your child's team may occur Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the entire school year. All conferences should be scheduled through our Guidance Department. Please do not hesitate to contact the Guidance Department at any time if you would like to schedule a conference.
Holiday Cheer: All KRMS students will be making a virtual holiday card that will be delivered to local children's hospitals in the area.
Schedule/Attendance: We will continue to be in an all-virtual setting until Monday, December 7th.
Attendance in the All-Virtual Setting: Please keep in mind that attendance is required every day of the week. On Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays, attendance is take on live, zoom calls. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, attendance is calculated by logging into Schoology and completing assigned work.
Chromebooks: We have enough Chromebooks available for those in need. In order to obtain a Chromebook, please arrive at the High School North Main Entrance at one of the following times:
Tuesdays--3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Thursdays--8:00 AM to 9:00 AM
Progress Reports: A hard copy progress report will be mailed home to you this week. Additionally, if your child is in danger of failing a class or multiple classes, a failure notice letter will be sent home as well.
Miscellaneous
Career Day: This year Career Day was held fully virtual, and students had the opportunity to access videos regarding different careers. A huge thank you to the following parents who were gracious enough to assist in the efforts: Rick Wallace, Paul Tropea, Michele Blair, Melissa Gammell, Jamie Markham, Claire Klieger, Christopher Jones, Sharon Brudnicki, and Swati Chaturved. We appreciate your commitment and willingness to help our students.
Renaissance Program Mid Semester Mini Celebration: Over 200 students completed their community service hours and have held up their end of the bargain academically with all As, Bs, and Cs. A mid-semester celebration was held in their honor via Zoom in late November. Each student is well on their way to becoming a Renaissance cardholder at the end of the Semester. If your child has signed up to be a part of the program, please encourage him/her to do so. Students still have 8 weeks to qualify. Learn more by clicking HERE.
