Principal's Message
January 26, 2018
Dear Willink Families,
It is hard to believe that the second quarter ended today. Where did the first 20 weeks of school go? Teachers have until February 1 to enter grades. Report cards will be mailed and available on the portal February 6th. Please sit down with your child, review their progress, and start making goals for the 3rd quarter! Goal setting when combined with consistent monitoring is a great way to help your child ensure that he or she is staying on track!
Next weekend is show time for the Willink Drama Club. For the past four months, the cast and crew of Legally Blonde Jr. have been working tirelessly to get the production ready! From what I have seen, it is going to be an incredible show. Shows are Friday night, Saturday afternoon, and Saturday night. Tickets will be available online starting on Monday, January 29th. The link will be found on the Willink homepage.
Our WEB leaders started a new community service project today. They are gathering used winter coats, hats, and gloves for children in the city of Rochester. If you have winter gear at home that is no longer used by your children, please consider sending it to school. Adult sizes are also welcome. Your children can drop off items in any house office. You can also drop items off in the Willink Main Office.
Below, you will find this week's study tip. The strategy shared is called a Foldable. It really helps students learn vocabulary and allows them to chunk the information. Let us know how it works for your child!
Enjoy your weekend!
Jim

NOTES FROM THE NURSE
“Tis The Season” for winter illnesses!
Once again, a reminder about infection control: cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze, throw away your tissues promptly, and wash your hands! Influenza (the flu) is easily transmitted through the air (sneezing/coughing) and close personal contact. Cold and flu viruses can linger on doorknobs, telephone receivers, computer keyboards, and other surfaces. It is important to wash your hands frequently and try to avoid rubbing your eyes and nose or putting your hands around your mouth.
The decision to keep your child home from school is not always clear cut. Most often your child will do fine in school (with a little encouragement and a box of tissues). Here are some guidelines to use in determining whether your child should stay home.
· Any condition you think or know is contagious to others.
· Fever greater than 100.4 orally.
· Child is too ill, sleepy or lethargic to sit still all day in school.
· Severe sore throat, with fever or lethargy, or lasting longer than 48 hours. (Contact your health care provider.) Reminder: If your child has had a throat culture for strep, he/she may NOT be in school until the results are known. If your child is diagnosed with strep, he/she MUST be on the antibiotic 48 hours before returning to school.
· Red/runny eyes (until cleared as non-contagious by your health care provider).
· Severe ear pain or drainage from the ear. (Contact your health care provider.)
· Severe headache, especially if accompanied by fever. (Contact your health care provider.)
· Honey-crusted sores around the nose or mouth. (Contact your health care provider.)
· Significant rash accompanied by fever, sore throat, stomach ache, or a rash in various stages including boils, sores and bumps. (Contact your health care provider.)
Please help remind your child to dress appropriately for the colder weather. This includes warm coat, gloves/mittens, hat, and boots.
Remember: Notify the school if your child will be absent by calling their house office.
Box Top For Education Collection
The FACS department is sponsoring the Winter Homeroom BOX TOP FOR EDUCATION COLLECTION contest from now until February 12.
Box tops are located on many different food products like Pillsbury and Old El Paso products. Please save box tops and send them to homeroom with your son/daughter. The top homeroom will receive breakfast and the 2nd and third place homeroom will also receive prizes.
The money we get will allow us to buy stuff that is not included in our normal budget. With our last check, we were able to purchase a silhouette cameo machine which helps us to cut out wall words to decorate the school, etch glass mugs and many other things.
Please ask everyone you know to save them!
