Triad's Insights shares information on anxiety

Anxiety is a common topic for EAP Insights.

Affecting over 40 million adults in the United States over the age of 18, it is safe to say most of us will experience anxiety at one point in our lives. When we talk about managing stress and anxiety, we often refer to it in relation to our inter-personal lives; pressure from a new job, nerves about socializing, stretching ourselves too thin, the list goes on. But what about the anxiety that happens when you turn on the television to find news of another global tragedy or injustice?

Wamsley Wildcat Summer Camp

Over 150 Wamsley students and over 20 staff members are having an UNPLUGGED summer and closing the learning gaps.

The classes incorporate some physical exercise into the experiences. Campers get field trip "experiences" every Wednesday. Last week they ventured up to the West Elk Trailhead up Buford road and spent the day in nature, reading, hiking, doing some math, building some fairy houses, and with the forest service's help from Ranger Kelsha they learned about Campfire soup which ensures our campfire is out when we leave. Our campfire also helped us make a delicious new recipe - banana boat splits!

Outdoor Education

Last month, GT students from Riverside and Rifle Middle Schools made the trek down to the Grand Valley Challenge Course as a way to close out a long school year, outside of the classroom. Through participating in various challenges both on the ground and high in the air, students worked on coming together as a team while building trust and discovering new strategies to cope with adversity.

Outdoor Leadership

The Rifle High School Outdoor Leadership class completed their final two field trips for the school year. On the first, a student-planned and -led trip to Moab, UT, students hiked to multiple sandstone arches, went white water rafting, rock climbing, and canyoneering. Throughout the trip, students pushed the limits of their comfort zones high off the ground and bonded over a fun, long weekend.

The second trip, in partnership with an organization called Eco Flight, was a flight over Rifle in a small Cessna airplane. Students flew over the area and witnessed the complexities of the oil and gas industry from the air, the complications of water usage of the Colorado River, as well as urban sprawling in the area.

Unplug this summer

The Garfield Re-2 Technology Department wants to encourage all students to unplug from their digital devices this summer.
