MAY HUSKIE HOWL
NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Happy May!!
It's hard to believe that May is here! I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate this yearβs success.
Our students and teachers have worked hard on grade level concepts and they are currently finishing state level assessments to show how much they have learned.
Our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) has spear-headed so many events this year, here are a few of the highlights: Flower Power Fundraiser, Breakfast with Buddies, and Staff Appreciation Week.
Our support staff has put in countless hours to assist in learning, make sure students are fed and safe, and that our school is clean and safe.
And to our parents I would like to send a huge THANK YOU! Without your support, none of this would be possible. Thank you for trusting us with your studentβs education and well being.
- Principal Christina Nava

Questions from Survey
These specific questions, concerns and feedback were asked in our annual parent survey. I appreciate you asking!
Question: Bathroom doors do not lock.
Response: Our wonderful Custodian noticed that our bathroom locks were not functioning due to wear and tear. Over Spring Break, he replaced 8 locks and will continue to replace others as needed.
Questions: Front Doors are not locked.
Response: We will be installing locked doors like the high school and middle school. During COVID, we locked the doors and if kids were picked up, we walked them outside. We can do the same with our new doors. Or we can have you come in to pick them up. We would like your thoughts on this process. Use the Feedback Link below.
Concern: Bullying needs to be addressed.
Response: Our school takes Bullying very seriously. Every employee in the Emmett School District must take a bullying course. Our district has defined bulling as "repetitive, un-fair match, and causing emotion, physical, or social harm." When students report bullying, our staff asking specific questions to determine if the situation is bullying or peer conflict. If bullying is evident, the office contacts parents and develop a plan for all students involved. If necessary, we contact the police to help us address the situation.
Concern: Student do not have enough time to eat lunch
Response: All Idaho schools must adhere to instructional minutes set by the state. In other words, recesses and lunch breaks are limited to meet state requirements. Currently, students have 35 minutes for lunch and recess. Students are allowed to stay inside to finish their lunch as long as needed.
We value your feedback!
At Shadow Butte Elementary, we are about doing our best to support students, staff and families.
Let us know the things that you love and any areas that you want us to improve!

NOTE FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
A Few Things: As the year comes to an endβ¦
Please plan to stop by the nurseβs office to pick up any medications for your child. Medication not picked up by the last day of school, will have to be discarded.
Just a reminder any medications whether, prescribed, over the counter, or vitamins need to come through the nurse's office.
Please wash and return any clothing that your student may have borrowed and not returned throughout the year.
Thank you for allowing me to take care of your child this year!
Thank You,
Berkelee, RN

NOTE FROM THE LIBRARY
We are closing in on the end of the school year! With that this is our last week to check out books (May 2-5). This gives us time to get all books returned and fines paid so we can get the library ready for summer and a new year! If you are unsure if your child has a book out please reach out and be looking for any missing book notices coming home.
Also if you student participated in Roaring Readers or Boise Hawks, we are still waiting on those tickets. I have personally reached out to both programs and tickets will be available shortly. Thank you for your patients and understanding.

Morning Drop-Offs
Shadow Butte Elementary School wants our students to be safe at school. To ensure safety, adult supervision is provided from 8:35 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the playground, bus area and inside the school. The students are the parentsβ responsibility at all other times. If you are dropping off your child before this unsupervised time, please know that we do not have staff available to watch your child. If you can make arrangements to drop off children after 8:35, that would be greatly appreciated.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES
- If there are changes on how your children will be going home at the end of the day, those changes must be called into the office at 208-365-0877 by 3:15 pm and on Wednesdays by 1:45 pm. Please plan ahead because it disrupts the process of release time when we pull students from the bus line if they are already there.
Parent Portal
Sign up Today for the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. A Parent Portal Account will give you access to pay for Lunches Online, view Student Attendance, view Student Grades (4th and 5th Grades), and receive School Correspondence. BREAKFAST WITH BUDDIES π©
Our Shadow Butte community showed up BIG time for our annual Breakfast with Buddies event!
We "donut" know what we'd do without all of our amazing volunteers to make events like this a success!
The PTO estimates close to 250 attendees stopped in for donuts, muffins & drinks. The turnout far exceeded our expectations, as well as our food supply!
