Dear Parents,
I have 3 volunteers for The Butterfly House field trip on Wednesday, March 27th, from 9:30-11:00. They’ll be accompanying us in the classroom from 9:30-10:15. However, if you’d like to meet us there to walk through the butterfly atrium with us, please arrive by 10:15.
Week plans
Phonics/Spelling – Test will be 3/29
The phonics program is getting more challenging. Please talk to your child about the importance of paying attention and participating during these lessons. Nightly practice is essential!
Skills Taught –digraph ey (key), digraph ph (phone), soft g (giraffe), and vc/v vowel pattern
Skills Tested – digraphs au, aw, and oa
Sight words: work, word, & world
Spelling #19 – off, boy, hiding, turtle, disturb, survive, acorn, Friday, elbow, hurt, many, any
Dictated Sentences –
- Curt burned his hand on the hot car.
- The burn hurt and felt like fire.
Reading/LA – Thurs., 3/29 High Frequency Word Test
We will be reading Danny and the Dinosaur by Syd Hof. Look for the book to come home on or before Friday to be read to you.
Writing - Students will be guided in writing their first 3 paragraph Key Word Outline and story, telling about what they would do if they had a pet dinosaur.
Math –Tuesday, 3/26 - Chapter 13 Test over adding/subtracting to 40 with/without regrouping
After reviewing Monday, students will apply the skills they’ve learned in the combined addition and subtraction test Tuesday. Then we will begin Chapter 14 over mental math strategies.
*It’s becoming more important for students to recall math facts as we move through the remainder of our math curriculum this year. Please encourage math fact practice at home using XtraMath or flashcards.
Religion – 3/29 VIP Due We’ll continue to talk about the virtue of temperance, enjoying things in a balanced way. We’ll begin Ch. 13, discussing how to follow Jesus’ example of serving God & others. We will also begin practicing for our mass on April 2nd this week and rehearsing in the church. You are all welcome to come to the mass on April 2nd at 8 a.m.
Science – We will begin learning about animal habitats this week. Your child will decide what animal they’d like to research for a habitat project that will be sent home in Friday’s courier. Your child will be writing a report and creating a habitat for this animal.
