Springville Public Library Loves the watercolors of local artist Juanita Gibson!
In her 2002 interview with Birmingham Home and Garden magazine, local artist Juanita Gibson credited the French impressionist painter, Monet, as a source of artistic inspiration. When you speak with her husband, Ted, it is impossible to imagine that Anita was not equally inspired by their years of travel together. Ted speaks fondly of their trips abroad and the majestic beauty of sights like the Ganges in India, the pyramids in Egypt, and the natural beauty of Australia. While he talks about their years together his stories touch on his wife's talent, her beauty, her love and children, and most of all his love for her.
Juanita studied art under Richard Marks, at San Diego State University in California where her studies focused on oil painting. She continued her studies with courses at the Universidad de Guanajuato in Mexico and the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, Ireland. Her work has been exhibited in numerous Birmingham galleries and received acceptance to the National Competition in 1987 and 1988.
During the month of September, Ted Gibson is commemorating and celebrating his late wife through a special showing of her work. Ted has offered to share Juanita's art as Artist of the Month at the Springville Public Library and generously offered to sell select paintings with all of the proceeds going to benefit the library.
