Oxford Update Regarding Snacks at School
Students who are allowed to have snacks in classrooms will no longer be allowed to purchase food after cafeteria meal times. The nurse will not have snacks available in the health room. Students need to either bring a snack from home or purchase during breakfast or their designated lunch time.
8th Grade Students Free Coding Class
FREE coding classes March 7 - March 9 in the OMS computer lab from 3:10pm - 4:10pm. Class taught by BVNW student and supervised by Ms. Savage. Classes are free but registration is required – limited to the first 25 students! Families must email CSHamiltondsouza@bluevalleyl12.net to register.
Track & Field Practices Begin March 27
All 7th and 8th-grade students who wish to compete in Track & Field at OMS must have a signed BV Sports Physical on file prior to this start date. All physicals must include a physician's signature dated later than May 1, 2022 to be eligible.
The BV Sports Physical is linked here and also attached to this email.
Once completed, families must create an account on the RSchool website linked below and upload the document (at least pages 3 & 4 of the packet with signatures) to this website. Students who do not have the BV Sports Physical packet uploaded to the site below will not be eligible to participate in any practice or competition until this is done.

**If your student participated in another OMS athletic event this school year (cheerleading, basketball, football, volleyball) then they are good to go for Track & Field.
Social Media Fatigue and Mental Health
Research Psychiatric Center and Church of the Resurrection are combining forces to present a program on social media fatigue. It will be in person at Church of the Resurrection on Tuesday February 28th from 6:30 to 8:30. There will be clinicians discussing the impact of social media on mental health. It is free, open to the public, and there will be free child care.
Session is free but registration is required. Click HERE for information and registration.
PTO Trivia Night... Two Tables Left!
PTO Trivia Night
The Fountainbleau at 12701 Grandview Street
Saturday, March 25th
Start Time: 6:00 pm
All full tables have been sold for Trivia Night -- but, we still have room for TWO MORE COUPLES at one table. Click HERE to attend
WE STILL NEED LOTS OF VOLUNTEERS! This is a fun way to be involved and attend for free! We have empty spots for Check-In, Set-Up, and the Raffle. You can sign up to volunteer here: Trivia Night Sign up
We really need help with Auction Items and Parties.
We raise money on Trivia Night through the silent auction and parties that folks donate. If you have any goods or services you could auction, we'd be so grateful. You can also throw a party. We currently only have one party to auction off, and these are popular items. Come on out, party people! What are these parties, you ask?
Someone (or multiple friends) decides they would like to host a party for the school. The party host(s) will pick a date and theme and provide everything for the party. Hosts will also decide how many people can attend the party. At the auction, we then sell tickets for the party. The ticket sale money will go to the PTO. This is a great way to support the school, have fun and meet new people by throwing a party! The parties can be adult-only or for kids.
We've seen all kinds of themes in the past - Derby parties, Progressive Dinner Parties, Wine Tastings, Oktoberfest, Casino Nights, Disco, the 80s, Kids Pool Party, you name it. It's the most fun way to raise money for your school!
If you can donate a party or an auction item, please contact Jeffiny Shutts, jeffiny@hotmail.com, and thank you!

Community Service Hours for 2022-23 Recognition
Community Service hours for this year's Blue Valley Volunteer Service Awards are due to Allyson DiNitto in the Counseling office by Friday, April 14, 2023! Students who have completed 50 or more service hours from April 1, 2022-March 31, 2023 will be recognized with service awards at the end of the school year. We have 3 levels of recognition: Bronze (50-74 hours of service), Silver (75-99 hours of service) and Gold (100+ hours of service).
Service hours can be for any volunteer work done to help an organization or person that you do not receive payment or goods for the service. Service work is to help others, outside of yourself or your family.
Examples: being a team manager, volunteering at a food pantry, doing yardwork for an elderly neighbor, being a peer mentor for another student, helping at an animal shelter, cleaning up an area park. **Being part of a school club or activity does not count for service hours, unless the group worked on a project to help another organization or cause.
Please use the 2022-2023 Volunteer Log (or your own version of it) to record your volunteer hours! If you have questions, please contact Allyson DiNitto at adinitto@bluevalleyk12.org.

Student Absence Reporting ** Help Needed
Parents/Guardians we need your help. Please do not email or call staff members directly about student absences, late arrivals, or early dismissals (that includes Mrs. Orenstein, Mrs. Domoney, Mr. Holsapple, or any teacher). When those individuals are absent, your messages do not reach the attendance team.
We Highly Encourage you to use the “Report An Absence” feature in ParentVue. You may leave comments in the notes section if you are notifying us of a late arrival or early pick up. Please do not call Mrs. Orenstein directly – call the attendance line at 913/239-5505.
Thank you – we appreciate your assistance.

Student text “Come Get Me”?
Parents and guardians, we need your help. If your student texts or calls you from their cell phone saying they don’t feel well and want you to pick them up — please tell them to go to the nurse’s office. The school tracks contagious illnesses, number of students out due to illness, and Nurse Piper watches for illness trends. Your student should only be calling you from the nurse’s office if they are going home ill.
Families, it is flu and cold season. Please keep your students home if they have (or in the past 24 hours have had) a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea.
OMS Traffic Line
Please follow the OMS traffic loop entering through the south entrance, going all the way through the loop and exiting through the south entrance. There are no left turns when the light is flashing. Cars must pull all the way down the line and students must exit on the building side of the car. Cars may not drop students off on Switzer or before they are on the building side of the line.
Thank you for your help in ensuring safety for all students and staff in our parking lot!
Student Picture Gallery

Photos must be in focus
Please do not send multiple photos of the same pose, group, or action – we love variety!
