Tustumena Elementary Newsletter
February 9, 2016
Happy February,
It was good to see so many of you at the Parent/Teacher conferences. If you did not make it for your appointment, please call your child's teacher for a phone conference. We hope to have 100% participation. You are your child's first teacher and the partnership between you and the classroom teacher is irreplaceable.
February 15th is Presidents' Day. The actual federal holiday is called Washington's Birthday (even though his birthday is actually on February 22nd and Lincoln's is February 12th.) We do have school on this day. Here is a link to some fun facts about Presidents day and some of our presidents. http://www.ducksters.com/biography/uspresidents/president_fun_facts.php
We are looking for a few volunteers to help with the district Forensics Match here on February 27th. From 9am to noon we could use some help with the parking lot, data runners, hall monitors, judges, and timers. Please contact Ms. Gossett or me (260-1345) if you would like to help.
Thank you.
Doug Hayman

Health tip from Mrs. Abel
“The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends “screen time” (e.g. TV, computer, tablet, or phone time) be limited to one or two hours of high-quality content per day for kids age 3 and up (AAP says kids ages 2 and under should avoid screen time). At home, “screen free” zones (e.g. keeping screens out of bedrooms or off during meal times) and encouraging alternate activities (e.g. outdoor play, reading, hobbies, and social or imaginative play) helps kids learn to set limits and maintain balance with technology.”
