Obsidian Middle School Updates ~ Friday, January 29th
Dear Wolfpack Families and Students,
We hope this email finds you all well! First, if you missed our important family letter about Schedule Changes and Hybrid Student Visits, please find it here. It contains important updates for all Wolves.
Students are nearing the end of their first Purple Rotation (in classes 2, 4, and 6), and getting ready for their second Gold Rotation (classes 1, 3, and 5) which begins Monday, February 8th. If your student is shifting from Full-Time Online (FTO) to Hybrid, or from Comprehensive Distance Learning to Full-Time Online (FTO), then your new schedule will be in place on Monday, February 8th. (Note that this is a small group of students. Most students were in CDL and are simply shifting to Hybrid on February 22nd. Their schedules will not change.) This is to ensure an easy transition on the days we return to on-site, in-person Hybrid learning.
If you have any questions about your schedule or which group you're in, feel free to email your student's school counselor:
Last Name A-K: Counselor Trisha Bruck trisha.bruck@redmondschools.org
Last Name L-z: Counselor Shawn Diez shawn.diez@redmondschools.org
Bell Schedule for both Hybrid and FTO students:
It's important to review the Bell Schedule before February 22nd. Whether you're returning to Hybrid, on-site learning or doing FTO, the bell schedule is changing! Please review the changes here. You'll see that FTO students follow the 7:30 Start Schedule. Hybrid, on-site student days start at 7:30AM, while Hybrid, at-home student days start at 9AM.
Hybrid Student Visits:
We know this is a lot of new information for students and families! We're excited to announce that all students returning to Hybrid On-Site learning are invited to OMS for a 2-hour visit before they return to school. Please read all about the Hybrid visits here. Transportation is available for all bus riders, and free breakfast/lunch is also available.
As questions arise for your family, please call us at (541) 923-4900. We welcome your calls and hope for the smoothest transition possible for your families.

Full-Time Online Students ~ Important Meeting
For those of you opting for Full-Time Online for the rest of the year, it is important that your student attend the Google Meet information session regarding their unique schedule. There will be instructions, guidance, and discussion about the differences between what school has looked like and what it will look like moving forward.
Students: please complete the Full Time Online (FTO) Information Session Sign-Up confirming that you will be attending. If these times do not work for you, please let us know in the sign up an alternate time that you can meet during next week: February 2-5. Parent guardians are welcome to attend but these sessions will be done through student access to a google meet.
Next week (February 1-5) is School Counselor Appreciation Week!

Athletics at Obsidian
We are excited to announce that we will be starting our second round of OMS athletics in February! Planning is underway for our second cross country season, including a meet on the Ridgeview High School course and practices with Coach Cuniff. Cross country will start on Tuesday, February 16th. Cross country sign-ups are now active in FAMILY ID. This will take place outdoors, so dress warm!

In addition to the return of cross country, we are making plans to bring back girls volleyball as soon as the county metrics allow. Please stay tuned for updates regarding start dates and sign-ups in the coming weeks.

Returning to Hybrid Learning
First, students will receive instructions, training, and more information about Hybrid during the week of February 16th - February 19th in Wolf Den class. This time will include videos and opportunities to ask lots of questions. We are confident this time with teachers will help students have a clearer picture of what hybrid school will be like.
For parents, we are hosting two optional Google Meets Q&A sessions on Tuesday, February 16th and Wednesday, February 17th at 6PM-7PM. Join Principal Jensine Peterson, Assistant Principal Evan Grant, and school counselors. Families are invited to attend one or both sessions; please submit your questions using this brief survey - these will help inform the evening’s topics. Links are forthcoming.

Struggling in Distance Learning? We're here to help!
We have several options if students need support and connection during Distance Learning:
Drop-In Help Lab: All day, every day, we have a Google Meet open from 8-3 for any student who needs schoolwork help. All students are welcome to come to Google Meet with the code omsstudent. This is a great way to ask questions, get homework or Canvas help, or connect with an Obsidian staff member. Students must be logged into their school Chrome account to access.
Personalized Support: Each student is a unique learner. If your student is struggling with Distance Learning in general, or even in one class, please reach out to your student's teacher or call us at (541) 923-4900. We are here and available to help.
