Take Care of Yourself
"Self-care is the root of resilience" states Aguilar (Onward, 309.) Take care of yourself and make choices that allow you to do just that. Remember that it is okay to say no, okay to offer (and select) options that resemble YOUR passions and YOUR interests. And when given two choices inside you, feed the wolf that is beautiful and good. After all, You Deserve It. Our Kids Deserve It, too!

Worthwhile Reading Recommendation of the Week
As our work in grade levels continues to include reading achievement, let's focus this week on building vocabulary through direct word learning strategies using web-based vocabulary tools. Authors Bridget Dalton and Dana L. Grisham identify strategies and correlating free links to engage and enhance vocabulary and increase students' volume of reading in their article "10 Ways to Use Technology to Build Vocabulary". Strategies include:
- Learning from visual displays of word relationships within text
- Taking a digital vocabulary field trip
- Connecting fun and learning with online vocabulary games
- Student use of media to express vocabulary knowledge
- Taking advantage of online word reference tools that are also teaching tools,
- Supporting reading and word learning with just-in-time vocabulary reference support
- Using language translators to provide just-in-time help for ELLs
- Increasing reading volume by reading digital text
- Increasing reading volume by listening to digital text with a text-to-speech tool and audio books
