Benton Weekly Update

Week 4: September 8-11, 2020

Monday, September 7 is Labor Day, No School!

School resumes on Tuesday, Sept. 8 which is a B Day.

Spotlight on Learning:

Wondering what is happening in 7th grade history? This past week (Aug 31st - Sept 4) students were assigned a "Why Study History" assignment. Students analyzed a variety of quotes relating to why we should study history. Are you interested in reading the thought-provoking quotes? Scroll down to see some of the quotes below.

ATTENDANCE is tracked daily by student attendance in Zoom sessions AND student participation in asynchronous learning activities posted in Schoology. If your child is having issues with connectivity, or confusion about accessing materials, please contact the teacher or administration for support.

Zoom security: beginning this week, students will be "authenticating" their Zoom accounts by registering on the Zoom app with their Schoology username and password. This will ensure that all participants in Zoom sessions are students enrolled in that particular class, and that all students are accountable for their participation. Teachers will provide students with the necessary instructions.

Notable Events this week:

  • Tuesday, 9/8 International Literacy Day [Click here for some good books]
  • Wednesday, 9/9 California Admission Day ~ celebrating 150 years of statehood
  • Friday, 9/11 Patriot Day to remember those who were injured or died during the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001.

Less Notable, but still happening! Every Tuesday @ 8am Coffee with the Administrators via Zoom.

How 'bout that heat?

Hoping everyone was able to stay safe and (relatively) cool during our record-breaking heat this past weekend! On the upside of Distance Learning, our kids aren't eating lunch and having P.E. outdoors.

Wednesday this week is Period 4A 9am-10am.

Log into your period 4A Zoom 9-10, then work on other assignments, projects, homework, reading from 10am-2pm.

Join the Benton Dance Club!

Dance Instructor Miss Toni will be offering dance instruction Monday-Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 via zoom starting Tuesday, September 8. We know many students' regular activities have been cancelled in this time of COVID-19 and the school wanted to offer some additional recreation to students in the afternoon. All students are welcome to join and it is completely free for the students. If you are interested in joining the Benton Dance Club, please use this link.
