Principal's Update
I hope you all have had a wonderful winter break. I know I enjoyed the time with my family, a little down time, and some holiday fun. I am looking forward to seeing our students back on campus so I can hear all about it.
As we work to finalize the structure of the 2023-2024 schedule, we would appreciate your feedback. You have received multiple messages over the break from me about collecting your feedback via a survey. Thank you to those that have responded. The survey contains questions that pertain to all three programs. Please access a survey through the link below. Please, discuss the survey with your children and include their feedback in the survey as well. I have met with our Parent Advisory Council, Student Advisory Council, and staff to gather feedback and ideas. That feedback was utilized to create this survey.
I want to recognize all of the feedback that I have heard over the first semester about bringing more options to our students and to continue to build a strong unified community across programs. I have heard pros and cons of a lot of different ideas and what is working well and what needs to be tweaked. Please use this survey to ensure your voice is heard and included in the discussion. The survey will close on Wednesday, January 4 at noon.
I also want to encourage you to ensure your students are finishing the semester strong. Please remember that we must adhere to state regulations for ALEs which require students to make weekly contact and adequate monthly progress. Students that do not make adequate monthly progress or adequate become ineligible to stay enrolled in our programs. We are here to support you and your students to achieve success and we have a great support team to help. If you need additional help, please feel free to reach out to me directly. The last day of the semester is January 27.
Schedule change information for the spring semester is listed below. Please be sure you note the dates for making changes.
Cheers to 2023,
Ross Baker

Parent Assistance with Writing
From the NFP Team:
Hello NFP Families! We are hoping to set up a time in January (likely the non-school day of Jan 30th) where we offer 1-2 hrs as a walk-in workshop event where parents come in and can sit with a handful of certificated teachers to ask questions, receive direct feedback and suggestions, look through and practice with existing curriculums/books we have access to, and even interact with other parents to share what has worked or not worked for you. This will focus solely on student writing skills and how we can help you to be better equipped as parents to assist their student in understanding, completing and feeling comfortable with their writing abilities.
If this event proves useful and well attended, we would use it as a precursor for more detailed and longer workshops in the future. Please help us understand your needs by answering the short survey below. Thank you!!

District and School Reminders
Snow and Inclement Weather
The National Weather Service is forecasting the possibility of lowland snow this weekend. We will continue to monitor the weather closely and work in partnership with city and county officials to prepare for the following school week.
As a reminder, many factors inform the decision to cancel or delay school in response to inclement weather. Northshore is a large district covering over 60 square miles with a number of micro-climates. While conditions may seem normal in your neighborhood, it may be unsafe in others.
On snow days, we have a team of bus drivers and facilities staff out driving all regions of the district starting at 3 a.m. We use feedback from our drivers as well as the updated weather forecast and information from our local public works partners to inform any changes to bus routes as well as school schedules. Any bus route or school schedule changes (school closure or a 2-hour delay) are communicated as early as possible, and in this order:
- TV and Radio Stations
- Northshore School District social media:
- Instagram: @teamnorthshore
- Twitter: @Northshore_SD
- Facebook: Northshore School District
- District and School Websites: The Communication Department posts school schedule updates to the District and school websites as early as possible between 5 and 5:30 a.m.
- Phone calls, emails, and text messages: Staff will receive an email and text as close to 5 a.m. as possible and a follow up phone call around 5:30 a.m. Families will receive a phone call, email, and text message, starting around 5:30 a.m. If you miss a phone call from 425-408-6000, please listen to the saved voicemail, review the received text, or your email. Please do not redial this phone number. It is important to keep the district phone line available for emergency situations.
- Northshore Information Line: You may also call the District’s information line, 425-408-6001, beginning at 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for school closure information.
If the District does not make an announcement, it means schools are open on time and buses are on a regular schedule.
We recognize the challenges that winter weather presents for our Northshore community. Listed below are common questions about our snow response and answers.
Weekly Contact
All students must make weekly contact with their advisor, even if you are on vacation. This can be done in a number of ways, including email. Discuss this with your advisor to decide the best method of contact for you. Failure to make contact will result in an intervention plan where your student will need to report weekly progress.Mental Health
A great way to start off the new year is with self-care. Visit Northshore School District's mental health resource page for tips.
