SMS Saints Commence Basketball Season with Victory!
by Phil Leggiere
The Saint Michael Saints High School Saints basketball squad played their 2019- 2020 River Valley Athletic League opener Tuesday, December 10 at the Austine School gym, hosting the White Oak School. In a commanding performance the Saints’ offense came out of the gate strong, taking a decisive early lead, which it never relinquished, dominating White Oak throughout the game in a 52-42 victory.
Leading the team’s offensive charge center Michael Kelliher scored 14 points, while Stephen Borst and Ezra Christie chipped in 10 points each. The Saint defense was also in top form, commanding the boards with strong rebounding by Kelliher and forcing numerous White Oak turnovers with aggressive half-court pressure
The win was particularly sweet after the Saints 42 to 18 loss against White Oak in their matchup last season.
Next week the Saints travel on Wednesday, December 18 to take on the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School (PVCICS) in Hadley Massachusetts.
