A Note from Mrs. Thexton

Dear Parents,

Happy Thursday! Isn't having a day off in the middle of the week such a treat? I know I feel rejuvenated and refreshed! February is proving to be a super busy month with the 100th Day of School, Valentine's Day, Read Week, and Friendship Festival filling up the calendar!

100th Day of School

Today we celebrated the 100th day of school by rotating through the 1st grade classrooms. 1C visited all 7 classrooms for 100th Day reading, writing, math, engineering, word study, health, and technology activities. Ask you child what their favorite part of the day was.

Valentine's Day

We will celebrate Valentine's Day with a party on Sunday, Feb 14 at 1:35 - 2:10. Students should bring in their Valentine cards on Sunday morning, if they haven't already done so. If you are interesting in helping with the party, please contact Rouqueya at

Lost and Found

Our lost and found collection is growing by the day. We encourage you and your child to look for any lost / misplaced items in the bins outside the elementary cafeteria. All uncollected items will be donated to Qatar Charity at the end of February.

Lower Elementary Math Parent Drop-in

Our Math Coordinator, Mrs. Carol Little will be holding a Lower Elementary parent drop in / office hour every Wednesday from 2:00 – 3:00pm. Mrs. Little will be available at this time every week to assist parents who need further information about our Math program or who would like help / suggestions with how to support their children at home. It will be held in Ms. Mindy Martin’s office.

The ES Library is excited to announce that Read Week 2016 will take place from February 14th – 18th.

Check out our exciting activities

* Bookmark Contest.
Interested students can design a bookmark in the theme of “READ for the FUN of it!” and submit it for consideration in our bookmark contest. A winner will be selected from each grade level. Submissions must be turned into the library by the end of Read Week, February 18th. Winners will have a READ poster of their own made and copies will be made of their bookmark for library visitors to take. Blank bookmarks will be sent home on Sunday.

*Used Book Sale

A group of our Upper Elementary students, assisted by the HS Global Issue Club will sponsor a used book sale with proceeds going to Qatar Charity to support a needy family. Gently used books to be donated can be brought to the courtyard area outside the music rooms on February 7th through 10th . Coupons for a free book will be given for every 4 books donated. The sale of the used books will happen on February 15, 16, 17, and 18, during recesses and immediately before or after school.

* Dress Up Day – Lower Elementary
