The Weekly Hoot
April 17-23, 2017
Greetings All -
Happy Thursday! I hope everyone had a great week and is looking forward to a wonderful 3 day Easter weekend. :) I know I am, but with my daughter coming in, a crawfish boil, two birthday parties, some shopping, and Easter Sunday dinner, it's going to be a busy one!
This week we have really been on the fast track of working on things for next year. Connie and I have been busy, busy, busy working on your summative evaluations. We will be having conferences with you next week to go over these as well as some information for next year. Don't worry! Not much is changing with grade levels. :)
Speaking of next year, we have had some changes that I am sure many of you have already heard about, but I am going to make them "official" in the Hoot this week.
As we all know (and have cried tears over!), Mrs. Tennyson is retiring this year from her Dyslexia Specialist spot. The only reason I am letting her leave and not barricading the door is because Donna Gessner will be taking over her position. Donna and Mrs. Tennyson have worked closely together over the past few years, so I am sure this will be an easy transition for everyone.
Also, leaving this year is Hannah Whitford. Hannah is getting married in May and her husband has accepted a job in the Dallas area so for some reason she thinks she needs to go with him! LOL! We wish Hannah the very best. In Hannah's position next year we have hired Jamie Mock. Jamie has been a life saver this year stepping in as a substitute. We are glad to have her back on our faculty next year in Special Ed.
Also, following her husband for some reason, is Cathy Huff. Cathy knew last year when she accepted the 5th grade math position that it would only be for one year while she was waiting on her daughter to graduate from high school. We have been privileged to have her here on campus for the two years we have had her and wish her absolutely nothing but joy as she, Russell, and their family begin a new chapter of their lives in San Antonio. We are so excited to be able to add Brandi Price, Cathy's student teacher this year, as our new 5th grade Math teacher. Brandi has a passion for those intermediate-aged students and will be a great asset to our campus. When you see Brandi around, please welcome her to our Anderson-Shiro Elementary family!
Since Donna is moving to the Dyslexia position, that left us in need of a Reading Interventionist. I am happy to announce that Sarah Lee has accepted that position. She has been a great asset to our school and we feel she will do a great job in her new position. Because we only are needing 3 second grade teachers at this time, and not 4, we are not replacing Sarah's position right now.
Yes, we are still in need of another teacher. At the moment that person would be a fourth 3rd grade teacher. I will begin looking at potential applicants when we return from Easter and get through some of these summative evaluations next week. I will keep ya'll posted. :)
STAAR scores for the first round of testing for 5th grade are due in on Tuesday, April 18th. Sometimes they come in early, so I am hoping over the weekend they will post. I will definitely let everyone know. :)
At the Board Meeting on Monday evening, Option 1 of the two calendar options was adopted. It won out in the votes by a good margin. I am sure it will be posted soon on the website.
As the school year gets closer to the end, spring fever gets rampant, and it is inevitable that discipline issues tend to arise more frequently. Please remember that consistency is important. If a student ends up with a write-up, please make sure you have made contact with the parents about any pre-referrals that are in the system already. There are many fun type activities that are coming up for students. Please feel free to hold some of those as rewards if needed. I saw where missing an egg hunt today did wonders with one student. I know ya'll with some of these babies, and it is MUCH appreciated!
I have updated the Important Dates 2016/2017 document in Google Docs. Please check it to see the new dates added (they are highlighted in yellow.) If you see anything that needs to be added, please let me know.
Thanks for a great week! Everyone have a glorious weekend with your family as you celebrate Easter and rejoice in the reason for this season! :)
Soaring with you this year,
Marcy

Also, thank you Mrs. Parrott for having another successful book fair! We appreciate you putting this together each year so that we get extra funds to buy books for the library.
