January 11th-15th
Weekly Objectives
Writing- I can use the prompt to create a central idea statement. I can draft claims that support my central idea statement. I can create a concluding statement.
Math-I can relate multiplication to division. I can use different division strategies to solve a 2 digit by 1 digit division problem.
Science-I can explain how soil is formed. I can compare different types of soil and their purpose.
Social Studies- I can create a timeline of Harriet Tubman's life. I can create a slide about Harriet Tubman's life on my hero slideshow. I can apply my knowledge about Harriet Tubman. I can read and take notes about Thomas Edison.
Homework/Tests
Reading- Read each day for at least 20 minutes. We are studying nonfiction right now, so reading any type of nonfiction text would be great! Also, we are beginning Vocabulary Unit 7.
We are starting a new program called Lexia Core 5. Students can log in through Clever and practice at home. The activities are specially curated for each student in order to address his or her personal needs, and students need to spend at least 40 minutes a week on the program between school and home.
There will be a Text Features Assessment on Friday, January 15. For review at home, you can work on the Text Feature review pictured below.

Writing- Spelling Quiz on Friday!
Math-Practice Multiplication Facts 3x a week for 10 minutes! CONTINUE OVER THE BREAK!
*We will have a multiplication and division quiz on January 22nd. We will send home practice the week of.
Practice at home: Create number bonds with multiplication and division. Have your child find items around the room and practice splitting them into equal groups. Ask them to show you different strategies on how to represent multiplication and division problems.
Science- Unit 8 Formation of Soil and Natural Resources Assessment will be on January 27th. Study guide will be sent home the week before.
Practice at home: Have your child find soil samples in their backyard. They can show you what it is made of, what it is good for, and how it was created over time.
Social Studies- None
Thursday, January 14th is Mix and Match dress up day to celebrate each other’s similarities & differences with integrity.
Monday, January 18th is a School Holiday.

MULTIPLICATION PRACTICE AT HOME: PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
Have your child set a schedule to practice 2-3 times a week for 10 minutes a day for mastery.
They can also focus on a few facts a month to break the goal into chunks. Here is an example schedule:
December: 0, 1, 2, and 3
January: 5 and 10
February: 4 and 6
March: 7 and 8
April: 9
May: All Facts Fluently

- Old-fashioned flash cards (send your child's teacher an email if you need some)
