Principal's Update 2020 - 2021

Welcome Back to James Monroe Elementary School

What to Expect

Whether from our homes or from the classrooms, our James Monroe staff will be coming to you live, daily, with instructional lessons and sharing skills for students to practice independently as well. For the next ten days, the elementary district is following specific lesson plans geared at developing relationships with students and building classroom community in our new virtual classrooms and laying the foundation for routines in each subject.

Look for the classroom teacher's welcome letter with information to help you get started and their daily schedule. Please see this Parent Support Guide to help your child gain access.

Additionally, please sign up for a time for you and your child to speak with their teacher so they can learn more about your child's interests, learning preferences and to discuss the remote classroom plan. Appointments can be scheduled in Parent Portal for grades K - 4 and SCA.

The school's website will serve as a source of communication as well as our monthly newsletters, email blasts and phone calls to keep you updated on safety information, return to school and hybrid plans, exciting school-wide events and school news.

We know many of you may be having to make difficult choices with work, child care and school or may be searching for advice about how to help support your child's learning at home. Please consider coming to our Parent Support Group Meeting on Sept. 24th at 7:00pm, more information to follow this newsletter. You can also speak with your child's teacher with questions regarding remote learning during their office hours.

We look forward to connecting at our Virtual Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 15th. More information will be shared soon!

Best wishes for a safe and happy school year!

Teachers will send you a link to join the virtual meeting. The meetings are taking place over the phone or computer and should include your child.

Back to School Night

This year, we will be hosting a virtual Back to School Night for grades 1 - 5 on Tuesday, September 15th from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Teachers will send an email with information on how to login to their live presentation. This is an opportunity to learn more about your child's class, the curriculum and remote learning.

Specials teachers will share pre-recorded videos and you will be able to join Q&A sessions at scheduled times. There will be no presentation, nor is this time to speak about your child in particular, just an opportunity to ask questions about the program, and format of the class.

If you are unable to join, a presentation will be emailed home for your convenience. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or principals with questions.
