Principal's Update 2020 - 2021
Welcome Back to James Monroe Elementary School
What to Expect
Look for the classroom teacher's welcome letter with information to help you get started and their daily schedule. Please see this Parent Support Guide to help your child gain access.
Additionally, please sign up for a time for you and your child to speak with their teacher so they can learn more about your child's interests, learning preferences and to discuss the remote classroom plan. Appointments can be scheduled in Parent Portal for grades K - 4 and SCA.
The school's website will serve as a source of communication as well as our monthly newsletters, email blasts and phone calls to keep you updated on safety information, return to school and hybrid plans, exciting school-wide events and school news.
We know many of you may be having to make difficult choices with work, child care and school or may be searching for advice about how to help support your child's learning at home. Please consider coming to our Parent Support Group Meeting on Sept. 24th at 7:00pm, more information to follow this newsletter. You can also speak with your child's teacher with questions regarding remote learning during their office hours.
We look forward to connecting at our Virtual Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 15th. More information will be shared soon!
Best wishes for a safe and happy school year!

Directions for grades K - 4, Grade 5- Mr. Osofsky and SCA:
(All other Grade 5, should see your child's teacher for sign ups)
1. Log into Parent Portal.
2. Go to Student Data and select conferences. A link will appear that says “Schedule conference for Parent Teacher Conferences” for each available day. (See image below)
3. On the next screen, select “Reserve” to reserve a day and time for your child's homeroom teacher..
4. Select only one conference per teacher. An email notification will be sent to confirm the appointment.
If you are unable to attend the conference, please email the teacher to cancel or change/reschedule your appointment in the Parent Portal. This is a courtesy to the teacher.
Back to School Night
Specials teachers will share pre-recorded videos and you will be able to join Q&A sessions at scheduled times. There will be no presentation, nor is this time to speak about your child in particular, just an opportunity to ask questions about the program, and format of the class.
If you are unable to join, a presentation will be emailed home for your convenience. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or principals with questions.
Our Monthly Themes are a HOOT!
Technology Updates for the 20-21 School Year
Looking for how to login to your child's device? Check out these helpful videos to guide you with Classlink and setting up the iPad and Chromebook HERE.
New students should contact the school to receive a district issued device.
Grades 3-5 --Your child’s district-issued device which was held over the summer should be used for their new grade level.
Kindergarten - Grade 2 --Your child should have received a district issued iPad or chromebook during pick up. Please let your child's teacher know if you did not receive a device.
The help desk can aid in any technology issues. Please use this email if you should need assistance: help.desk@edison.k12.nj.us or visit this website for information about wifi and how to schedule an appointment for repairs.
- We recommend purchasing optional insurance for the device which will cover all repairs and replacements for the entire year (including this summer) July 1 2020 through June 30, 2021. For information on optional insurance, click here.
