Yearbook Staff Working Hard
Each year, the IHSPA provides an opportunity for an annual critique for yearbook staffs to gain detailed feedback about their books. Totem participates in these critiques to continue to better its yearbooks, year after year.
"The Totem staff works hard each year to make sure they create a book students want to read, review, and remember for a lifetime," Adviser Sara Denhart said. "I want to congratulate the yearbook staff for continuing the SHS tradition of being recognized at the state and regional level for their efforts."
A separate judge will evaluate all finalists to determine the Hoosier Star Award winners, which will be announced Friday, Oct. 23 at Franklin College during the 2020 IHSPA state convention.
Talented Freshmen Photographers Earn Recognition
One SHS journalism student, Kayla Vandervort, was named the runner up of the top honors at the art show, Exposure 2020, for her tonal range, black and white work featuring water droplets on the hood of a vehicle in the SHS parking lot. She took the photo during a class assignment.
"I am proud of where all of our first-year journalism students have progressed to this year. With every photo and assignment, they keep improving their skills," teacher Sara Denhart said. "These student photographs show imagination, creativity, and technical skill."
Twenty photographs ranging categories of color, black and white, portraits were selected from SHS to be part of the gallery show, Exposure 2020. The photographs featured work from Aiden Cullum, Brianna Herald, Catherine Rose, Chloe Scott, Claire Routt, Mia Collins, Grace Routt, Hannah Thomas, Jazmin Collier, Kayla Vandervort, Jocelyn Allen, Kaden Albertson, Mallory McGlothlin, Melea Luttrell, and Vicki Arney.
Exposure 2020 opened on March 5 and runs through April 10. The gallery is open to the public in the Gallery of Media, Arts, and Design at the Columbus campus, located at 4475 Central Avenue.
