Monday Memo
Week of 1/6/20: Central's Newsletter for Teachers & Staff
Happy New Year Central Family!
Welcome Back Panthers!
I hope this greeting finds you well rested, re-energized, and excited to begin our second semester together here at Central. Great things are in store!
This week Mrs. Kim Syples joins us officially as Central's Reading Coach! We are all very excited to have you join the Central Family Kim! Welcome!
We also have several new classes. Mrs. Lynn Britt will be in Room 10 with K/1 students, and Ms. Kenia Rodriguez will be a LTS sub with us again in 2nd. We will also add Mrs. Covington as an ELA teacher in 4th and 5th. Let's be sure and welcome all these newcomers and offer any help we can to help them gear up for the second semester.
We will kick off the week with a 1/2 day training with Math Solutions (Anna Falcone) on the topic of Reasoning and Math Discourse. The amount of Math reasoning and discourse have increased already at Central based on observations and walk-throughs; this training offers us the opportunity to work collaboratively with our teams to continue to expand and improve meaningful teaching practices and capitalize on the instructional strategies we purposefully use to push our students to the next level. I believe you are the key in moving our school from good to great! K-2 will meet in the Media Center from 8:00-11:30 a.m. and 3-5 will meet in the Media Center from 12:30-4:00 p.m. Lunch for all is 11:30-12:30 (you may leave campus).
The Math Solutions training is mandatory for anyone teaching math; however, it is open to anyone.
Don't forget that grades must be entered into Skyward by 9 am on Tuesday, January 7th. Students who have received awards should also be entered by 10 am on Tues., January 7th.

Action Items and Reminders
- Remember per safety protocols, blinds should be shut. I totally get wanting a little "non-artificial light", so as a compromise you can open the top blinds and leave the bottoms closed as you see in Mrs. Wooten's class. This closes the bottom so no one can see in as they go by(and the kids aren't distracted), and you still get the benefit of a bright room. Thank you!
- Ms. Heather Johnson will be coming in to assist K and in other rooms she's been invited to teach and model in. She is an excellent resource and loves our students and teachers. She will also visit in our new classrooms.
Don't forget that students need phonics, word work, and don't forget fluency. Close reading is so important, but research shows that fluency is equally as important. Read to them, and give them time to read. Practice is so important and we will be talking more in PLCs as we look at our reading data.
- Look in a mirror! You are amazing! I mean you are a great teacher! In fact, You're kind of a BIG Deal!
Please sign in daily.
If you have a time sheet it is very important to come up and sign in.
Don't forget to upload your plans in our shared drive. Outstanding job to everyone on getting your plans submitted and on time!
- Thank you for signing in and greeting your students at the door!
- Attendance notes must be checked daily and turned in daily. Attendance must be completed by 9 AM sharp.
- Wear your I.D. Badges at all times! Please send anyone who doesn't have a badge or sticker to the office and notify the office.
- Lesson Plans should be in by Sunday night to the Team Drive.

APPRECIATIONS
Over break, I personally took stock of where we are as a school and the quality of the staff here that make up the CES Family! I am beyond blessed and can't think of a better group of staff and students to make this educational journey with. You make a difference every single day! Thank you for your continued support and dedication.
I think you will all get these...
Our Commitment and Pledge to Central Instruction
Together we commit to working hard to make sure instruction and assignments are both rigorous and engaging. We will continue setting the bar (grade-level standards) high and placing that intellectual lift on our students. This is the key to mastering complex material.
Time and time again, research has shown that when students are given access to four critical classroom level resources, they can and will make BIG academic gains.
- Grade-appropriate assignments (Rigor of the Standards)
- Strong instruction that lets students do most of the thinking in the lesson (facilitate with probing questions- most of the talking should be the students)
- A sense of deep engagement in what they're learning
- Teachers who hold high expectations for ALL students and truly believe they can meet grade-level standards (Set the bar high)
Every student will receive daily access to challenging, engaging, and grade-appropriate work. With each day that passes we will refine our skills to the best of the best in our profession! We will focus daily on what our students are learning and doing, we will strengthen our belief about what students can accomplish.
Together we are committed. Together we are Central. We are #ONECENTRAL
