News From Ms. Kramer's 4th Grade Class

Spelling Bee

Santa Fe Trail is bringing back the Spelling Bee! On January 13th fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students will be competing for a chance to go on and represent our building at the county spelling bee.

This coming Monday, students will be given a written spelling test (separate from their spelling contract) to determine the top ten spellers in our room. From there those ten students will be given a private oral spelling test, and the top four students will then take the stage on the 13th.

If your student would like to prepare for Monday's spelling test (not graded) I have posted a list of words on Google Classroom. Good luck!

Testing Party!

We will be having an all school testing party to celebrate how hard students worked during MAP and DIBELs testing. The party will be on the last day of the semester, December 18th. Third through sixth grade will be watching Akeelah and the Bee to get students motivated for our upcoming spelling bee.

Your student is coming home with a red permission slip that will allow him or her to watch the movie on Friday. Since this movie is rated PG students need a parent's consent. If you do not wish for your student to watch Akeelah and the Bee they will participate in an alternate activity. Please sign and return the permission slips no later than Friday morning.

Craft Supplies Still Needed!

As part of our geometry unit, students will be completing a project in which they will be designing a playground of their dreams. This playground will need to be created out of different geometric shapes and angles. Students will be making both a 2D and 3D model of their design incorporating the engineering design process being emphasized in PLTW.

With this being said we are in need of materials to make these playground come to life! If you have extra supplies at your house or just need to get rid of a few things please send them our way. Items needed include: pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, form paper, straws, felt, pom-poms.

Thank you for your help! It does not go unnoticed!
