District Spelling Bee

Akron School District hosted our annual Spelling Bee competition on Tuesday. Spelling tests were given to our 5th - 8th grade students last week to see who qualified for todays oral round. It took 22 rounds to find a winner! Congratulations to both Parker Molt and Zachary Bowin for making the finals with Zach representing Akron as our Spelling Bee Champion. Zach advances to the Virtual State Spelling Bee competition on March 13, 2021. Congrats to every student who participated and especially to our winner! A big thanks goes out to Mrs. Hernandez, Ms. Sampson, Mrs. Randel, and Mrs. Weers for organizing and judging the Spelling Bee.

Akron FFA Celebrates FFA Week

Akron FFA has been celebrating FFA week this week. On Monday classes went on a field trip to CHS where they discussed safety, agricultural job opportunities and also got a tour of the new advancements to the facility. The chapter hosted advisory games and dress up days. The Ag I students also did some Ag Awareness Presentations and the week ended with a community service focus as students picked up trash and cleaned pens at the fairgrounds.

Mental Health and Wellness

5 Easy Ways to Make Gratitude a Habit

1. Start Small- Just like when starting anything new, practicing gratitude is most effective when you start small.

2. Stop Comparing, Right NOW – Though stacking yourself up against other people is seriously tempting (especially when it comes to what you see on social media), making comparisons is a huge no-no when it comes to mastering your gratitude practice.

3. Write It Down – Writing down what you’re thankful for is an awesome way to chronicle all of the details in your life, whether they’re big or small.

4. Give More – Try doing something nice for someone else.

5. Keep It Regular- It takes about 66 days to form a habit.
