Mark Your Calendars - Halloween Celebrations
Mark you calendars! We will celebrate Halloween this year on Friday, October 30. While this will look a little different this year, we think this will be a fun celebration day for all!
A few costume guidelines:
- Students who want to participate must come to school already in costume.
- Face paint should be kept to a minimum to avoid distraction all day.
- Costume masks will only be permitted during the parade and classroom party time. Regular face masks will be required all day as normal.
- Costumes must be age appropriate and not involve gore/violence/blood.
- No fake weapons will be permitted under any circumstance
Parade tradition will continue (albeit virtual) at 8:45 on 10/30.
The Ixonia tradition of the Halloween parade needed to continue despite our safety considerations. This will be a virtual parade with music and movement throughout the school. Each class will parade past, giving each child the opportunity to be showcased on the video! Any family members can zoom in to watch the LIVE event at 8:45 a.m. OR watch the recorded parade at a later time. The zoom link will be sent out next week. There is no limit to how many can attend the zoom.
Classroom Parties
Throughout the day classrooms will be having Halloween celebrations which may include a craft, games or possibly an individually-wrapped treat. Thank you PTO for providing a Halloween craft for each child! Each homeroom teacher will communicate with you prior to Friday, October 30th.
Honoring Veteran's Day
Veteran's Day is very important to honor; to keep everyone safe, this year we will be doing things a bit differently.
On Wednesday, Nov. 4th, Ixonia elementary school will observe Veterans Day. We are honoring our veterans prior to November 11th in order to provide time for a special Veterans Day video collaboration with all Oconomowoc elementary schools. As part of the observance, Ixonia students in grades 4K-4th grade are invited to decorate a star in honor of a veteran or someone currently serving. A hardcopy of the star will be sent home on Monday and if you choose to participate, we ask that the star is return on or before November 4th.
You may use the star below, or trace it onto cardboard or colored paper.
Please write the name(s) of the person(s) being honored on the star(s), along with any other information you may wish to include.
Feel free to include a picture of your veteran, but please don't send any originals.
On November 4th, we ask all students to wear red, white, and blue. We will take photographs of students with their stars to include in the Veteran's Day video. On actual Veterans Day (Nov. 11), students will have the opportunity to view the video as well as view a school video honoring our veterans.
Illness Guidelines
In late August, OASD district nurse, Christy Deal, put together this informational video. At the time, everyone was on information overload and we were just anxious to get children back to school. Now that we have been fully-operating and facing these illness symptoms, it is worthwhile to revisit this video. It is 13 minutes, but provides the clarification and explanation needed.
Take a look and feel free to contact Brooke Sambolin (sambolinb@oasd.org) or Amy Hunkins (hunkinsa@oasd.org), Ixonia's isolation room staff, for more clarification or information.

Student Services Support
As a school community we are certainly living in unprecedented times. Changes and unknown factors on the horizon can be an anxiety inducing experience for students and families. For some, it might be difficult to navigate these feelings on their own. OASD Student Services Staff are available as a resource to support students who may be struggling with anxiety or other mental health concerns. The counselors, school social workers, and school psychologist can provide individual support for students and families. Please reach out to the student services staff at your building if your child is struggling or if you need support in navigating these unique times.

COVID-19 Symptoms
The following symptoms could indicate a COVID-19 infection. Students displaying any of the following symptoms that are new or not normal for your child this time of year, and not attributed to a health condition will NOT be allowed in school. Your student is considered symptomatic if they have one of the symptoms marked with a (*) or two of the other symptoms above baseline for them:
- Cough*
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing*
- New loss of taste or smell*
- Congestion or runny nose
- Fever (100.4 or greater) or chills
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Sore throat
Not everyone with COVID-19 displays all of these symptoms. For many, symptoms are mild, with no fever. It is important to know that you can still transmit the virus to others even if you have mild symptoms or no symptoms at all. Additionally, if your child has a fever, diarrhea, OR vomiting ALONE, you should keep your child home for at least 24 hours or until symptoms are resolved. If allergies are something that your child displays this time of year and it isn't listed as one of their Health Conditions, please call the Health Room at 560-8403, so they may add "seasonal allergies" to your child's health record.
When calling the Attendance Line (56-8403) to report your child's illness, you must include all symptoms they are experiencing.
