Mustang Round-Up Weekly Update
March 22, 2021
Welcome Back All Students!
While some classrooms and spaces may look different, the procedures and expectations that have been in place all year will not change. All students and staff are required to wear a mask properly all day, we will continue to use one-way hallways, and students will continue to take their backpacks to classes.
During this week home would be a good time to go through the backpack to reorganize and clean-out. Be sure to only keep necessary items in the backpack. It is important to locate their student ID, which is on a lanyard and put it in a safe pocket in their backpack. Students should also have some extra face masks in the backpack, also. All students should charge their Chromebook each night before returning to school.
Students are also allowed to bring a water bottle to school each day. We just installed our new bottle fillers in each grade level pod, the gym, and the elective hall. Students are able to fill or refill their bottle between classes.
Please read the details below to better prepare for this transition.
Enjoy your spring break! We will see you soon!
Sincerely,
Michelle Grinsteiner

BEGINNING MARCH 22nd at Cheyenne Middle School
In an effort to ensure March 22nd and the school days run as smoothly as possible, we ask families to review these items:
In-Person Learning:
All students, except those enrolled in Virtual Edmond, are expected to be on-site for in-person learning for all classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. School hours are from 7:40am to 2:15pm. Doors open at 7:10 each day. Students should be seated in class and ready for instruction by 7:40am each morning. The district attendance policy is linked for families’ convenience. Breakfast and lunch are provided for free with a grant from the USDA.
Wednesday Remote Days:
Wednesdays will remain a remote learning day for all students. Students are expected to log-in to Canvas and participate in all links posted by teachers and complete all assignments that are linked by the designated due date. Students will be able to see Wednesday’s lesson by Tuesday.
Class Schedules:
In an effort to lower class sizes, a few student schedules must change. Our goal is to give every teacher the opportunity to have as much space in their classroom as we can. Every effort will be made to keep students with the same teachers but simply switching hours. Any changes should be completed by the end of the day on Friday, March 26.
Assignment Due Dates:
The “Sunday by 11:59pm” deadline for all work only applied during blended learning. All assignments are now due on the designated due date, as determined by each teacher.
Layered Mitigation Practices:
The CDC reminds us that layered mitigation practices are the surest safeguard against the spread of COVID, especially as students return to class. To that end, we will continue with the following routines:
Universal and correct use of masks
Physical distancing to the extent possible
Hand Washing and respiratory etiquette
Cleaning and maintaining healthy facilities
Contact tracing in combination with isolation and quarantine, in collaboration with the OK County Health Department.
ID Lanyards: As always, students and staff are expected to wear their ID and school lanyards every day.
Student lunch periods:
Student seating during the lunch period is being arranged to provide the safest dining experience possible, considering the number of students present and available furniture options. As the weather continues to improve, we hope to offer outdoor picnic dining too.
Meal Pick-Up:
For those families accessing our free meal pick-up, this service will continue every day, Monday-Friday for any and all school-aged students, 0-18 years old. Please see your site’s information for specific meal pick-up times. Pick-up times at Cheyenne are from 12:30-1:00 AM, Monday-Friday.
Social distancing:
As recommended in February 26, 2021, CDC document (“Operational Strategy for K-12 Schools through Phased Mitigation”), secondary schools will provide physical distancing for students and staff to the greatest extent possible. From class to class, this will vary, depending on the square footage of the classroom space and available furniture options. In many situations, seating arrangements in classrooms can be manipulated to create pods of students, similar to the plan for elementary students. By layering mitigation practices, specifically by maintaining strict adherence to face masks covering the nose and mouth, students and staff can play an important role in protecting themselves and others from the spread of Covid.
Student Quarantines:
Quarantining procedures will still be in place and followed. While quarantine numbers may increase due to having more students in a classroom, we hope that by creating the student pods, we will not have to quarantine an entire class at a time.
Quarantined Students’ Assignments:
Quarantined students will be expected to turn in assignments on the day the teacher requires them, just as they were accustomed to when in-person via Canvas.
School Assemblies & Activities:
At this time we are returning to class, but not returning to school procedures pre-pandemic. In order to continue implementing multiple levels of mitigation strategies, schools will still not hold large group assemblies and will limit guests in the building for the remainder of this school year. Our hope is that we will be able to return to more normal school procedures and celebrations for the 2021-22 school year.
Summer School:
While middle school students are not typically afforded a summer school opportunity, this year we will be providing a summer learning experience designed to bolster the skills of any student whose Aimsweb assessments indicate a need for remediation. Families of students qualifying for this opportunity will be contacted later this spring.
Car Riders:
Please remember to keep the flow of traffic moving around the parking lot. There is only one lane of traffic moving through the parking lot. We respectfully request that you pull forward as directed. Students may have to walk a little further to the door but it will help move traffic along. It is necessary for the safety of everyone that students enter and exit vehicles along the parking lot sidewalks in the drop-off lane. If you need to park your car while the pick-up line is moving, please use an available parking spot. Here is the map for the flow of traffic and pick-up and drop-off area.
Morning: Remember - we open the building at 7:10 am. Teachers are on duty and available to supervise in classrooms and at breakfast beginning at this time. Please follow the directions of the morning crosswalk teachers as they direct traffic, ensuring students are able to safely cross the parking lot. Please refrain from being on your cell phone while driving through the parking lot.
Afternoon: Please make arrangements ahead of time with your student on where you will pick up after school. Remember, for safety reasons, we ask that students enter vehicles that are at the front of the school along the sidewalks, not from Covell or the main drive along the school.
Expect that the lines for car riders will back up and move a bit slower as we all return together!
If you have a specific question that was not addressed above, or that cannot be answered by school site personnel, please reach out to us at Covid19@edmondschools.net.
