Chestatee Elementary School

Letter from our Principal Mrs. Tennies

Dear Chestatee Families,

We have some great news to share!

Chestatee is one of nine schools recognized as a finalist for the Family Friendly Designation in the state of Georgia. This contest is open to all Title 1 Schools, and highlights the work we do to build partnerships with our community. We are exceedingly proud of this achievement, and recognize that it is due to the partnerships we have formed with our families. So truly, we need to share this award with you and recognize the time and attention you have given to our school. Some of the changes we have added to the school over the past few years have been recognized as welcoming to families.

We are most proud of…

· The meals we are able to serve to families in conjunction with our Title 1 Programs

· Our Parent Resource Room’s increasing use

· Our ESOL de Noches Program this summer

· Our Kindergarten Bus Round up and Kindercamp

· An updated welcoming lobby area

· Our technology to support learning after school hours

· The terrific programming our PTA has offered for families this year

This is just to name a few of the things that make Chestatee special!

In closing, I would like to ask, “What do you consider to be Family Friendly?” We are always welcoming new ideas and ways to make a great school even better! Plan on sharing your ideas on the Title 1 Blog on the webpage, at an upcoming Parent Advisory Meeting or Principal Chat, or during an upcoming visit for lunch on the stage. I would also like to ask that you give us feedback by taking the Parent Survey used for the CCRPI (College and Career Readiness Performance Index). Yes, there does seem to be an increase in the use of surveys this year. Remember, your voice, and your child’s voice is important. We read the input and consider it as we make plans for our future.

Kind Regards,

Polly Tennies

Snow Day Drill

January 5, 2015

We are preparing for a blizzard at Chesatatee Elementary! Will we get one? At this point, we really can’t say, but we do want to be ready!

Forsyth County plans to recover instructional time lost due to school closures by using online learning through itslearning, the district's online learning management system. If both Inclement Weather Days are used this year, any additional lost instructional days will be recovered through itslearning. For the 2015-16 and beyond school calendars, there will be no Inclement Weather Days built into the school calendar. For school closures, all days will be made-up with online learning.

Our Chestatee teachers have prepared a brief practice assignment in itslearning to help students and parents feel comfortable locating and completing online work.

If you have not received instructions from your child’s teacher, you should be hearing from them soon. Please make sure your child completes the practice assignment by January 5th. This will let your child’s teacher(s) know who has access to an Internet connection and the necessary materials (tablet, laptop, etc….) for completing the work.

During the event of actual “snow days”, students are expected to complete the assigned work within 5 days of returning to school in order to be counted present for the missed days. Students who do not complete the work will be counted absent.

If you are in need of financial assistance to obtain these materials or Internet service, please contact Carolyn Craddock at 770-887-2341 extension 722111. You may also contact your child’s teacher.

College Pennants

Do you want your college represented at the T?

We are asking for people to send in their college flags for us to display! We want to encourage our students to think about how BRIGHT their futures are, and start thinking now about setting goals for what college they want to attend!
