11th Grade PSAT 10-11-17
The PSAT/NMSQT exam will be given at Scituate High School on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. This is an opportunity for students to take a practice SAT test, which is identical in format to the SAT test used for college admissions. The Preliminary SAT (PSAT) is designed to better prepare students for the SAT, and provide an opportunity for students to be exposed to the format, content, structure, and scoring of the assessment.
The October PSAT also serves as the Qualifying Test for the National Merit Scholarship Program, an academic competition program which provides scholarship money, national recognition, and merit rewards to students in their junior year of high school. The program is highly regarded by colleges and universities, and provides students with invaluable opportunities. Students are only eligible for the National Merit Scholarship if they take the PSAT in October of their junior year.
Scituate High School will administer the PSAT/NMSQT to juniors on Wednesday, October 11th. The cost will be $20 per student, which covers the exam, administration fees, scoring, and access to the score portal, allowing students to work digitally to improve their scores for the SAT. Any interested juniors should sign up for the PSAT in guidance beginning Monday, 9/25. Payment must be received by October 3rd. If you need financial assistance to support your student taking this exam, please contact guidance.
We strongly urge all college-bound juniors to take advantage of this opportunity. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Hitchings, Director of Guidance, at Kaitlin.hitchings@scituateschoolsri.net or 401-647-4108.

HOBY Nominations
Each year, the Hugh O’Brian Leadership agency (HOBY) sponsors leadership seminars. The HOBY mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. The programs teach high school students social responsibility, how they can make a difference and what it means to be a global citizen. I am requesting that you nominate one 10thgrader to attend the seminar to represent Scituate High School. Selection should not solely be based on academic record but also on demonstrated or potential leadership ability
