Miss Achelpohl's Camp
third grade 2013-2014
Super September
Thank you for all of the donations of supplies that we have been getting! We are so thankful to sanitize our hands before lunch and stay clean! The students have stated to settle into our routines here at Camp!
For the month of September, we are focusing on the Character Trait of 'Responsibility'. Miss Hewitt's 4th grade class has been selected to work with our class to showcase how we can be responsible in the classroom, around campus, as well as at home. The students were videotaped doing what they do best! We will show our film this week during our Character Assembly. I plan to upload our video to our website for anyone who would like to view it! The students did an amazing job demonstrating their trait this month!
Also, September is Attendance Awareness month! Please be sure to have your children here every day and on time so they can earn a Free-Dress Pass for a day in October!

English Language Arts
For the next couple of weeks we will learning about Subject & Predicate, as well as Long & Short Vowel sounds, and Plurals. Reading Rotations are in full swing and I'm getting positive feedback from our Campers about their groups!
Writing
The students have been enjoying writing through expository pieces, but will soon transition into narrative. Ask your child what their Transition Words are for Writer's Workshop. Just the other day, I had to stop their writing time to go to Recess! What a wonderful feeling it is to have students who love to write!
Remember - KEEP CALM and WRITE ON!
Math
We have finished up review of second grade skills and begun working on Addition and Subtraction with Regrouping, Column Addition and Subtractions, as well as Rounding and Estimating! Math time flies by because the students have a great time teaching their friends their new skills while pretending to be the teacher.
Science
We are switching gears from Water and the Scientific Method to our upcoming Social Studies Unit. Stay tuned for the Matter and Energy Unit at the end of next month!
Social Studies
Our first Social Studies unit will begin next week. We be learning all about our Government, laws & rules, and consequences of not following them. Can't wait for this unit because we plan to go on our first field lesson to the State Capitol on October 17th. Please check Daily Folders for any information coming home about Donations and Permission Slips.
P.E.
Students are staying cool in the cafeteria while learning Yoga! Ask your child to strike their favorite pose.
Art
Going along with our "Oh the Places You'll Go" theme this year, students are creating their very own, never before seen, type of transportation in Art class. They have been working very hard and I can not wait to see what they will think of.
Spanish
Hablamos Espanol! We enjoy our time with Prof. Vengeas. I especially enjoy when they earn Spanish Dollars! I hope they continue to show responsibility and respect in Spanish class to bring in that money!
