Google Tool to Know About

SpeakIt! is a Google Extension that allows users to highlight online text so that the computer can read that text aloud. This is great for struggling readers or ELL students. At a recent conference, a speaker presented that listening skills are two years ahead of reading skills, so this is a wonderful accommodation for students. It is also great for teachers who want to multi-task; just use SpeakIt! to read an article, post, etc. while simultaneously inputting grades or completing other tasks. Find this Extension at the Chrome Web Store.

Holt Interactive Graphic Organizers

This website is full of downloadable graphic organizers that are arranged by purpose (e.g. = organizing, drawing conclusions, compare-contrast, evaluating, etc.). Once a user clicks on a graphic organizer, he/she can add text to the document. Once all the information has been included, the graphic organizer can then be printed and/or saved. This resource is a great way to help students brainstorm, organize, or visualize their ideas. Visit http://goo.gl/Fjm3gK to get started!
