October 19th- October 23rd
We will be kicking off Red Ribbon Week on Monday and we encourage all our students to participate. Virtual families please send us your pictures so we can post them on Facebook.
Wednesday is our picture day and Thursday our PTA will be hosting a Spirit Night at Hyponic Emporium.
Next week I will visit the classrooms to introduce the first Key of Excellence!
THIS IS IT! Make the most of every moment
This Key has three areas of Focus.
1. Paying attention – In order for students to make the most of every moment they must pay attention to what is going on in their classroom and in their life.
2. Using time wisely – Students need a sense of lapsed time and time management skills. Using a timer and building a sense of how time passes allows students to make better use of their time.
3. Keeping a good attitude – Students will learn that even if they do not want to do something, they can choose to have a good attitude, make the best of it and do well.
We will explore each of these areas and encourage our students to focus on the present moment as we promote excellence on our campus.
October at a Glance
Picture Day - Wednesday, October 21st
Lifetouch Photography will be at Carol Holt on Wednesday, October 21st for fall individual pictures. If you would like your virtual student to be able to participate in picture day you may bring them to the school on Wednesday, October 21st between 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. This time slot has been set aside for virtual students only. Pictures will be in the library and you will be able to enter straight into the library without entering the inside of the building. If you would like for your child to participate in picture day be sure to mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 21st between 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.
Please note that beginning Wednesday, Nov. 4, the beginning of the Third Six Weeks grading period, students who have selected in-person instruction will only be counted present when they are physically in class unless they have been quarantined due to COVID-19.
This means that in-person students will no longer be able to turn in assignments by 11:59 p.m. of that day to be counted present. They must be physically present in class to avoid an absence.
Quarantined students will be able to follow current practices to gain attendance for days they are quarantined.
Students enrolled in the MISD Virtual Learning Academy will continue to follow their current attendance practices. Some students are only login in for part of the their instructional day, it is imperative that you student participates in their class all day to ensure their academic success.
Unlocking the Mystery of Reading - October 29th
The Holt staff will be on live in shifts to interact with students and share literacy activities.

This promotion applies to in-person learners at all MISD campuses, Virtual Academy students, younger siblings, and non-MISD-students.
Second meals, additional entrees/sides, and snacks will be available to in-person learners to purchase for an additional cost.
In-person learners will access meals as usual, at their designated meal periods.
We will offer a daily public curbside service that the community and virtual learners may access from 10:30-12:30.
MISD COVID-19 Web Page
Mansfield ISD is committed to opening school buildings with guidelines that prioritize public health and protect students and staff to the greatest extent possible.
In addition to that commitment, the district also understands the need for transparency as we face this global pandemic together.
MISD has created a web page with the purpose of tracking COVID-19 cases within the district. The data provided includes the number of lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 cases and the recovery status of those cases by campus.
The information will be updated daily. Cases will also be communicated via email directly to the employees and parents of affected facilities.
Facebook Permission Form
At Carol Holt Elementary, we work hard to keep parents informed of all the wonderful things going on at school. One tool we plan to utilize this year is the Carol Holt Elementary Facebook page. In addition to updating families on upcoming events we would also like to share pictures that are taken at school. However, we respect the privacy and wishes of our student’s parents. At this time we ask for you to let us know if you do not permit your child's photo to be posted. An example may include pictures taken while students are doing something special in class. If you have not already liked our page on Facebook, it can be found at www.facebook.com/CarolHoltElementary. Please read the questions below carefully and complete the form. You will have to complete the form separately for siblings. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Summerville at 817-299-6460.
