Texas Revolution

The Texas Revolution, also known as the Texas War of Independence, was the military conflict between the government of Mexico and Texas colonists, most were land owners from the United States, that began October 2, 1835 and resulted the Republic of Texas after the final battle on April 21, 1836. There were two major battles during the war the battle of the Alamo and the battle of San Jacinto. During the battle of the Alamo all the forts defenders were killed but General Santa Anna lost a lot of troops leading to his capture in the battle of San Jacinto where he was forced to sign a treaty ending the revolution.

Trails West

The purpose for the overland trails was to travel west for different things. The Santa Fe route was used as a trade route for people. California trail was used for land settlement and riches from gold. The Oregon trail was used for settlement of the land. The final was the Mormon which was used by religious people who wanted to settle Salt Lake City.

Mexican-American War

The Mexican-American War (1846-1848) marked the first U.S. armed conflict chiefly fought on foreign soil. It pitted a politically divided and militarily unprepared Mexico against the expansionist-minded administration of U.S. President James K. Polk, who believed the United States had a “manifest destiny” to spread across the continent to the Pacific Ocean. A border skirmish along the Rio Grande started off the fighting and was followed by a series of U.S. victories. When the dust cleared, Mexico had lost about one-third of its territory, including nearly all of present-day California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico.

Manifest Destiny

Manifest Destiny was created as a political cartoon to show the Westward expansion over the four trails. You see people with wagons and people walking west following an angle who is guiding them. This helped fuel western settlement, Native American removal, and war with Mexico.

Performance Writing

The city has been booming since the gold rush started. There are many boats bring supplies and many people are coming through the California Trail. Nobody is waiting for the gold everyone is coming and they are coming fast. It's a good thing I started my business before this happened because I couldn't imagine what it would be like doing it through all this.
