Eye of the Dragon
John Dewey Academy of Learning, November 2, 2020
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the John Dewey Academy of Learning is to provide students
with a rigorous project-based curriculum and a safe, caring community in which to learn.
By developing the whole person - academically, professionally and personally -
JDAL will assist students in reaching their full potential.
Event Night - November 12th
Our students have been doing an amazing job with their learning this year, so we can't wait for them to share it with you and our community guests at our first Event Night of the year!
For those of you who are new to JDAL, Event Night is an opportunity for our students to showcase their learning with others. In addition to inviting families and staff, we invite others from the Green Bay Community to attend as well. In the past, we have been honored to have visitors from the GBAPS district office and school board, local leaders including the mayor and senators, admissions directors from local colleges and universities, as well as various leaders from area businesses and organizations.
It is not uncommon for our students to secure internships and/or professional connections during Event Night. Last year, one of our 10th grade students refurbished a telescope and was invited to participate in various activities with the Green Bay Astronomical Society. Another student was given a job offer by a visitor who was so impressed with the student's presentation skills. You never know what kind of connections our students will make!
Participation in Event Night is required for all of our project-based learning students. JDAL advisors have already started working with our students to prepare them for this exciting event and how it will be different due to Virtual Learning. Despite the unusual circumstances, Event Night will still be an incredibly valuable experience for students and attendees. We look forward to "seeing'" everyone! More information, with links to access student projects, will be made available closer to the event date.
Thank you for being a Dragon. We appreciate you!
With gratitude,
Jen + the JDAL Staff

ACT ASPIRE INTERIM TESTS - 9th and 10th grade
All 9th and 10th grade students will be taking ACT® Aspire® assessments for English, Math, Reading and Science in November.
The valuable data we gain from these assessments allows us to identify the learning standards your child has already mastered, as well as those that provide an opportunity for growth.
To help prepare students for these upcoming tests, we will be having them participate in online practice tests during their Advisory Circle on November 10 and 12. This will allow students an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the format and identify any technology issues prior to the actual testing which takes place November 16 - 19. Students will take the ACT Aspire Tests online and from the comfort of their own home.
If you have questions, please contact Jen.
