The Hawk Report
Christa McAuliffe MS Parent Newsletter - Week of Jan. 16
A Message From Our Principal, Mr. Lemon
Greetings Hawk Nation Parents and Students,
Our second week back on campus was busy, but full of learning opportunities both in and out the classroom. Our 8th graders participated in the 8th Grade Career Day, and learned about various occupations that exist, and what it takes to get them. They were very attentive, and many walked away an even clearer idea of what they want to do after high school. Our 6th and 7th graders continue to be champions in the classroom, utilizing technology almost daily, to demonstrate their learning and discover things they may not have known. Kudos to all of our Hawk Scholars! As we continue our journey into the Spring Semester, we ask that you keep the following important updates in mind:
- Course Selection Night & PTA Meeting this Thursday. This Thursday we will host our course selection night for rising 5th graders and current 6th and 7th graders. This is an important night to learn about the various courses that we off here at CMMS, and how the scheduling process works. Immediately following course selection, we will have a PTA meeting. We truly hope that you will stay and become a part of this amazing organization that supports the needs of our students and teachers. Course Selection Night starts at 6pm, and the PTA meeting starts at 7pm.
- Parent Education Classes. We are beginning our parent education courses for the Spring semester, this week. Please see the flyers below regarding information for our Wellness course as well as our Technology course. Both will be offered weekly. Be sure to review the newsletter weekly for additional classes that will be added to ensure we are serving our parent body as well.
- Cell Phones & Earbuds. It seems that earbuds and cell phones were popular gifts over the Christmas break. Please remind your student(s) that neither are allowed to be seen or heard from the time they enter the doors in the morning until 4:10pm. Should you need to reach your student during the school day, we ask that you contact the front office instead of calling or texting your student while in class. Please see the flyer below regarding consequences should we see/hear them.
- Progress Report 5 Grades Close Next Wednesday! Please review your student's Skyward account and make sure that all grades are passing (70 and above). We are encouraging students to strive for A's & B's as we know that our Hawks are more than capable of high academic success. Should you have a question or concern about your student's grade, please contact the classroom teacher.
- Attendance Matters! Each instructional day is filled with new material and additional opportunities for student growth. It is essential that we have our Hawk Scholars in attendance each and every day, for the entirety of the day. Please remember that Texas has a 90% rule that states that a student must be in attendance 90% of the time to receive credit for a course. Should an emergency or illness arise and your student must be out, please be sure to send a note to Ms. Katrina Taylor, CMMS Attendance Clerk, at Katrina.Taylor@fortbendisd.com, so that the absence can be excused.
- The first week back we reviewed our campus expectations to ensure our Hawks continue to be Hawk PROUD. Feel free to review the presentation with your student, and continue to encourage them to make good choices each and every day.
Let's continue to work together, and please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or concerns. Remember, we are Hawk Nation... Hawk Proud!
